Model Shoot

Here are a few from a model shoot I did last Friday. I think we are going to do some kind of location shoot next month with a girl next door theme.

Enjoy.

looking good, i like the 2nd and third one the best.

You should try some more dramatic lighting though. I'm not sure what kind of aesthetic you were going for but they seem a bit flat. With the first style of clothes i was thinking film noire :)

Thanks for the feedback Brad. As for style, I can't say I was even really going for anything in particular. A friend of mine got in touch with me last Friday and said they had some girls we could shoot after work. I brought my lights and setup a really basic 3 point setup for them. It ended up being like a lighting basics 101 course for the 4 other photogs that showed up and I got to shoot about 40 frames in the process of the next 3 hours. We were also shooting it specifically for a sty lest who wanted to add some stuff to her portfolio, so she was the one dressing the ladies (there was another model I did not post as I didn't spend much time with her).

I agree with you on more creative lighting. I'm wishing I'd had more time to do that. I don't know that i would consider these flat, cause I think that word gets thrown around a lot, but they certainly have much more even lighting than a lot of styles that are popular right now (meaning the left fill light was only about 1/2 to 2/3 of a stop lower than the main light from camera right).

I did get to play around a little though on the last one. It's using a red gel on a BG light, a hair light from the back right, and a home made snoot on a speedlight for the main coming from just above camera right. It worked pretty well and was my fav shot from the shoot.

3&5 are my favorites, i think for portraits even light is an acceptable move, and i don't think it looks "flat." cute girl too.

Thanks poopnoodle. I had another that looked just like it, but the catchs lights were not in the right part of the eye, so I went with this one instead.

She was very cute and very easy to work with. I'm looking forward to my next shoot with her. I wanted a girl next door theme, so I'm hoping I can get a pool secured and do some stuff around dusk with cool light and water reflections. Hopefully that way we can both stay cool too!

Yep, I want your job. I'm dealing with models too as we gear up for our book promos. I must admit it's the best part of the job. I'm looking over photos as we speak. I like your model. Something about the second and third shots that really do speak. Very natural, very pretty.

She was so easy to shoot. All her lines are perfect. Great check bones, nose, jaw line, and lips. Her big brown eyes help too. I'm looking forward to shooting her again.

i guess flat isn't the really the best word, more of an even lighting. I didn't mean to imply it was bad, just would like to see something more dramatic :)

The last one with red is nice but maybe if she was further away from the background to avoid the red spill she might pop out more? I'm not sure.

I just took some photos myself of a rapper for promotional stuff, i'll post em soon, let me know what you think.
