Mobile Video Production Studio Setup. I need your input Please.......

Hello,

My name is Peter Parmar, a canadian citizen living in India back in 1988 i used to work for a production company when everything was` analog, things have changed dramatically since then, recently i’ve been in the market to buy a mobile studio, for the purpose of mostly weddings and live show events/concerts etc, the problem people face here in India is that the data footage amounts upto 12-14 hours, this creates a heavy workload for the editors here and they do a lousy job trying to just get over the workload and their work lacks creativity because of this. Say a wedding is shot today, the final cut video of the wedding will only be available 3-4 months after the wedding which is ridiculous. I want to change all that, i want to bring a revolution in wedding video production. My requirements are that the setup should be compatible with up to 6 HD cameras, a complete setup with a switcher, monitors, telly, HD and SD recorder, blueray DVD burner, intercom system and one single snake cable to operate each and every camera. I would like to be able to supply my customer with HD SD and Bluray DVD’s at the end of the day. I’d like for you to suggest me what i should be looking into for as which cameras should i get etc, and the different products available in the market best suiting my purpose. My maximum budget will approximately 30,000 USD.

Thank you,
Peter Parmar

You're describing an Outside Broadcast Unit. Add another zero or two and you'll be getting close to the capex, but it's the number of people required to operate it that will kill any chance of hiring it out to the wedding market at anything resembling a profitable figure. Events and concerts is another thing entirely, but there are already plenty of people in that game.

Can you guys also suggest me the best camera to do weddings within the budget of 5000USD, obviously a camera that would perform in a multi camera environment, I'm looking to buy 4 identical cameras.

You are really going to need to spec out your system first and decide on a plan of attack. Have you looked at picking up a used fly pack?

if you go with wired camera, you will need HD-SDI, but you are not limited to HD-SDI equipped camera since HDMI to HD-SDI are common and cheap.(the cheapest are around 250$)
So i would choose a small camera, with good low light performance. If you want to stay cheap, you can use a consumer grade camera like a sony hdr-pj7XX
(with excellent stabilisation). Since technology is going fast , this would allow you to update your camera more often.
And these camera can record internally several hours so it would be an easy backup.
If you need more serious camera, sony has an equivalent in the NX serie like the NX30.
If you need to play with DOF, you can plan to replace 2 cameras, with a sensor and optics allowing this.
the problem of having six camera with a mixer is most cheap mixers usually come with only 4 inputs, but blackmagic ATEM serie offers a lot more and is very
reasonably priced. You will need a laptop to control it and an HD recorder to recorde the output.
you can even add a wireless video link to get a mobile camera with the Nyrius Aries pro.
if we count 6 cameras at 1000$ + 6 hdmi to HD-SDI converter at 300$ + an ATEM box 2000$, you are under 10k, but still need a laptop with a big screen,
a lot of coax cable and some recorder (there are many of then in the 1000-2000$ range, but you will need tons of hardisk to record 12 hours of video)
then you got a lot of money left for spare parts and accessories.
You will also need an UPS.
