MKIII Custom Filenames Problem

I setup custom file name for all my files pictures and video on the MKIII and sometimes it gives it the proper name and sometimes not. I set it up at 5D3_ and yet I get _D3_ a lot of the time but sometimes it names it properly. It's very annoying. I'm assuming it's because the first letter is a number?

Is there something else I'm missing? It's getting annoying to have to rename every file I got. I just want to make sure I can distinguish between my MKII files named MVI and my MKIII files named 5D3 or w/e else from now on.

Thoughts?

If all you wanted was to distinguish between 5D2 & 5D3 filenames then you could have just left the default filename as that is unique to each camera. I have changed from the default on both my wife's & my own 5D3 & have never seen the problem that you have but I have set the prefix to our initials & have no numerals.

This is normal, if you shoot stills in AdobeRGB space, the file name will start with an "_"

Well by default it used the prefix IMG_ which is the same prefix the iPhone uses...so I wanted to change it to something neither that nor the MKII use. I'll try what Marvin said about using AdobeRGB and that being the culprit but as I said, sometimes it actually names them properly then the very next shot isn't so that can't be the only issue here.

IMG is not the default filename prefix used as the 5D3 uses a 4 character prefix set at the factory unique to each camera e.g. mine is 8R0C You cannot specify an underscore as the first character presumably for the reason that as Marvin says it's how it indicates that it used AdobeRGB colour space (which I didn't know before but just confirmed in practice).

...I have been shooting AdobeRGB in camera since 5D Mk1 and 100% raw, and I just realized the other day that in camera color space is of course TOTALLY pointless when shooting raw :). (I wonder if there actually IS people out there that really need the bigger AdobeRGB-colorspace when they are shooting jpeg!?)

From now on I will never ever deliver a Mk3 file that starts with a _.
