mkh20 as a boom mic

What does everyone think of using a high end omni mic like the mkh20 as a boom mic? At least for interior shots. What would be the pros and cons?
Omni mics tend to have greater sound fidelity and freq. response. How would it compare to a cardiod like the mkh40?

Hmmm, I dunno. I guess the only downside to an omni might be the fact that it may also pick up a lot of extra room noise that you would not want to hear on tape, especially for dialog.

I use a Schoeps CMC641 for interiors, but considered the MKH50 before purchasing the Schoeps.

Omni would also be good for SFX and ambient scene recordings as well, though.

I' m sure some others can comment about omni's on booms. Oleg?

Very bad idea for dialog. You'll hear way, way, way, way too much room.

Maybe for ambi, but definitely NOT for dialog.

PS: Did I mention way too much room? :)

Ditto to what Ty said. Even the MK41 hyper has very little "reach". You have to get it super close in your average indoor environment to get quality sound. An omni would have to be pretty much right in front of their mouth. Hence, why it is never used in the sync sound world.

Cheers

Correction: "...why omni BOOMS are never used in the sync sound world."
