MJPEG video turns into a still photo

Hey guys! Everytime I record a video with this setting

modulr's setting

Q1=400, T1 = 4
Q2=300, T2 = 4
Q3=250, T3 = 4
Q4=188, T3 = 4

The video just turns into a still photo wherein I could zoom in and zoom out?! I know that this setting is not capable with playback (btw im using a gf13/sandisk extreme 8gb)... So there I transferred the files to my PC, those video-turned-stills are back to video format... some did not.

Some remained as a still photo (I could tell since my photo mode is in 4:3, while the video mode is 16:9).

This is pretty risky when you're already filming serious stuff as you can't tell if you have successfully recorded that certain scene. It all looks the same in the camera (all still).

I guess it's better to have that "writing-error" display rather than this :happy:

Whenever you record with MJPEG it creates both a JPG and MOV (there is no switching between the two).

Something like (example)...

P1050579.JPG
P1050579.MOV

is what you should see on your SD card for each recording. Also, the red recording icon blinks on the screen to let you know it actually recording. There are other GF users using those settings with zero problems.

Whenever you record an MJPEG the camera also saves a JPG of the first frame of the video. Maybe it is not successfully saving the MJPEG but the JPG is successfully being written first.

In the camera (as in not connected to a computer, as if you are viewing clips from the GF) or actually on the SD card (as in JPG, but no MOV)?

Do you have matched JPG/MOV files in the DCIM folder on the actual SD card?

The bit rate is too high for the camera to be able to play it. It just displays the JPG image instead but it still records some of the highest quality 720p MJPEG files I have ever seen.

I can confirm this. When I record a low detail scene with the GH1 with modulr settings and press the green arrow to go to the playback screen I see a movie symbol and the line "Playback movie file". When I record a high detailed scene (my testchart) I see a still photo displayed. BUT I never had a failed movie recording the card always contains the .MOV/.JPG pair. When it fails it clearly says "Movie recording was cancelled ..." so are you really sure you lost clips quietly? I didn't so far.

I lost 3 videos out of 11 , I tried recording again this afternoon, fortunately everything's alright this time. I just hope it doesn't fail anytime soon :0
