MJPEG on the GH1

Can anybody shed some light on this format/codec ?
From what I know it is an intra frame codec thus it is insensitive to motion / random motion and that it will need more storage space than 720p60 (twice).
On the GH1 it comes only as 30p regardless of PAL or NTSC model and
recording is limited to 8min for a single clip.
I don't know which exect codec it is, Motion JPEG A ,Motion JPEG B or PHTO JPEG, and I don't know its limitations (where it fails).

It's reported as Photo JPEG in the metatag and the rest of the facts you got correct. It's a shame it's only 30 fps - a 29.97, 25 and 24 fps option would have been great for fast motion shoots and a easy workflow.

Is the MJPEG mode on the GH1 exactly 30fps, ala 5d, or is it 29.97? I had understood it to be 29.97. If it's exactly 30, that changes things a bit for me, as I'm still debating between the 7D (or maybe T2i now) and the GH1 for some specific situations. The intraframe MJPEG codec @ 720 30p (29.97) on the GH1 was one of the specs making me lean a bit more towards the GH1 in recent days.
