MJPEG into Vegas & an Intro

I use Vegas 9 Pro and tried to drop a test GH2 mjpeg file into the time line and it did not recognize it/would not open.

Does Vegas Pro actually work with GH2 MJPEG files, or am I missing something elementary? If anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it very much.

Also, I am new to these types of cams, but have been lurking in this forum for awhile trying to learn. As a little introduction, here is a movie I made of fly fishing the surf around New York City in 2010: http://vimeo.com/19331836

I've committed to create something like this every year and just want to improve on quality, etc year after year which is why I've transitioned from camcorder to "DSLR". It is all self shot and edited in Vegas Pro9.

:D

I used StreamClip to convert the .MOV file to Mp4 which Vegas 9 is able to recognize. Can't tell yet what the effect is on quality as these are still tests, but at least it "works".

I have Vegas 9 and 10 and both import the GH motion Jpeg file no problems, so you must be doing something wrong. Definitely the conversion to mp4 would have hurt IQ.

I also use MJPEG files from my GH1 in Vegas 9 Pro with no problem.

You could try downloading my GH13 Timelapser software http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?244616-GH13-Timelapser

Run your MJPEG file with settings:

Shutter: 1
Interval: 1

This will stream copy your MJPEG file out to jpegs losslessly and reassemble them in a MJPEG AVI file (you can change GH13 Timelapser settings to generate MJPEG mov files if you prefer)

This will probably fix your problem without any loss of quality.

Edit: You can also enable exporting of audio, but it will save it externally as a 64kbps 16Khz MP3. If the above fixes your problem, I can write you a script that will losslessly stream copy the audio as well.

using those settings of 1, 1 - it will not affect the fps?

Hmm actually you are correct, it will play at 25fps so it willplay slower. You can just interpret the footage as 30fps though.

I was going to add an option to set the output frame rate in GH13 Timelapser but ffmpeg always seems to ignore that option when using -vcodec copy

Anyway if it fixes the problem I'll have another look at setting the output frame rate.

I think you are missing the correct mjpeg codec. I had the same issue with TX1 footage and Vegas 9, solved by installing the Matrox mjpeg codec. It's free for playback, but unless you pay it renders with a watermark (but who wants to render mjpeg?) Other free mjpeg codecs didn't seem to work.
