MixPre-D to 3.5mm mini plug cable

The Sound Devices MixPre-D outputs an unbalanced signal for use by consumer video cameras and DSLRs. This is on a TA3 female connector.

I'm looking for cables therefore that have a TA3-f on one side and a 3.5mm stereo mini-plug on the other. Sound Devices makes exactly one, and it's short. And really expensive.

I'm looking for something a little longer (say, 1m?) and hopefully less expensive. Anyone know where to order such a cable? I've spent days searching -- Google has *not* been my friend.

Alternately, is there a better way to get a signal from a MixPre-D to a DSLR that expects an unbalanced mic-level signal from a 3.5mm mini-plug?

Bruce,

If you contact markertek or trew audio, among many, they will build what you like. Anything with that hirose ta3 connector is expensive. You might also consider the stock short cable and a 1/8 extension, though that is an extra connection.

Excellent! Thanks, I never would have found Redco without your help.

Question though -- the cable you specified is a "balanced mic/line" cable. The output from the MixPre-D is unbalanced, and the camera is also expecting an unbalanced input. My experience with cables is limited, and mic cables very limited. I can't imagine that it matters, but I thought I should ask: Does balanced / unbalanced matter for this particular cable we're talking about?

That cable (the one from Sound Devices, and the one from B&H) uses ordinary 2-conductor (twisted pair) with a shield/screen around it.
That is commonly used for "balanced mic/line" but it is also commonly used for this kind of unbalanced "stereo" wiring.
Yes, there is a bit more "crosstalk" between the left and right channels. But the chances of that having any significant impact to your application are very remote.

I just picked at random one of the smaller-diameter cables they have available. I don't know if I picked the smallest one. You could browse through the cable selection and see if you like some other kind better. This is typically the kind of cable I would make for myself. But I buy most of my cable and connector parts from Redco.

That's what I thought. Thanks again!
