Mixing in 8mm and Hi8 Footage

Hi All! I have a band I'm currently working with that would like to incorporate a lot of their tour footage into their video, the only problem is that the video is on a combinaion of 8mm and Hi8 tapes.

My question is how can I work this footage in so that it doesn't look like ghetto when intercut with DVX100 24PA footage?

Thanks!

I would recommend de-interlacing it with a program like "DV Film Maker." See how that looks. If need be, then uprezz a series of stills using Shortcut's PhotoZoom Pro.

I haven't actually been able to find a copy of DV Film Maker for the Mac. Is it better than Cinema Tools in this circumstance?

You can always use the FluidFilm effect in Avid Xpress Pro 30i project/timeline to create:

1) 30 frame progressive
2) 60 field with 2:3 pulldown cadence

From there you can use a combination of filtres and color correction to get the three formats to ressemble each other.

But in some cases, the different looks from the different formats allows the user to see differnt eras as they were in a historical sense since it looks different helping the story place itself in time. It is all a subjective decision as to how the overall story will be told.

You can always take all three formats and create a 4th and different look all together. You can always take the 24p footage in a 30i project and use FluidFilm to make it look as though it were shot on 60 interlace to start with.
