Mixing Frame Rates

OK, so would it be a bad idea to mix 30p and 60i when DVD is my final output? What about when shooting for the web? I know in this case you would have to deinterlace for the 60i footage, but what happens to the 30p footage when you deinterlace the file? Bare with me everyone, I'm pretty uneducated on this topic.

Thanks!

You don't have to deinterlace to mix it. Both work on a 60i (NTSC) timeline just fine. You can then export everything as a standard NTSC DVD- compliant MPEG-2 file and all will be well.

The only reason you'd want to deinterlace anything is if you want the 60i footage to take on the movement of 30p. If that's what you want, you should deinterlace it before editing - but make sure you end up with 30p and not 60p (though 60p is an unlikely result). You can then edit on a 30p timeline or a 60i timeline; in that case, it doesn't really matter which. And again, you'll export as an NTSC DVD-compliant MPEG-2.

For the web, just exporting as 30p should convert the 60i and leave the 30p alone. But you can also deinterlace the 60i first (as above), edit on a 30p timeline, and export as 30p, and you have no worries.
