mixing footage

so i learned final cut when using my hvx only. it took some searching and forum posts to figure out video and compression settings. now im mixing dvcprohd, h264 from my 5d and mp4 from my go pro. wht should my capture and sequence settings be? should i be compressing in mpeg streamclip before importing into fcp? id like to edit natively but i dont think my macbook pro can handle it.

I'm mixing 5DII, 7D and gopro stuff. I just convert in MPEG Streamclip all to ProRes LT. It all works no issues.

Convert to the most prominent editing format you will be using before going to FCP.

so would my most prominent format be what ill end up compressing to in the end? i ussually compress to mp4 once my videos completed. the gopro is native mp4 so would i need to covert these also
