Mixing FCP and Avid MC on one computer

We just bought a new mac. We are looking to run the latest versions of Final Cut Pro and Avid Media Composer on it. We know the computer will handle both programs, but is their a capture/output card that will work with both programs? We want to be able to do more than firewire. We also need HD SDI, SD SDI, COmponent and composite IN and OUT. It would be great to just buy one card that will work with both programs. Any solutions?

Hmm, never tried installing and running both programs on one computer. Seems possible though.

As for sharing one I/O device, it probably won't work as I know Avid likes its proprietary I/O devices. So you might want to look into a dual I/O solution such as using these two products:

1. NitrisDX for Avid

and you'll have to dual boot your OS's if u want to have it work right too. avid is compatible with certain versions of quicktime only as they rate to be the most stable with avid. FCP needs the newest versions to accommodate any update they do.

there IS no I/O device that works with both avid and FCP. newest announcement is that fcp will now work with a avid unity network system, so they might be moving forward in that area. but their big bux comes from their hardware, and i doubt they are gonna let you use an AJA card with avid and lose money on that...

I've seen it work. Best bet is to have 2 separate boot drives, one for FCpro and one for Avid.
