Mixing DVCPro 50 (DVX) with 720p (HVX)

I am planning a documentary that will be shot during two different periods.

In the first part I'll probably have money just to rent a DVX, in the second period I'll probably have my HPX-170.

The DVX footage will probably comprise 25% of the documentary.

So my question is, how well do they intercut?

Will the final result be acceptable if the final export is in 720p?

Hi Daniel.
SD will always look soft beside 720 or 1080, but it doesn't have to look 'pixellated' and 'jagged'. I have intermixed SD with HD just fine. I find that a little temporal smoothing during the upscale gets rid of alot of the jaggies and a little unsharp mask helps with the lack of resolution.

Another option is to leave the SD footage in its standard resolution (kind of pillar boxed / letter boxed in the HD timeline).

If your doc has a good arc and the story is told well, I don't think anyone will care about the SD vs HD dilemma you are stressing about.

Born into brothels is a great example of bad lighting, poor cameras and less than stellar cinematography, but the story is so compelling and gritty - I think it even won an academy award.
