Mixing consumer cam footage with DVX shooting 24p?

Wondering what your solutions for mixing footage are. I have a small Sony Handycam I'd like to use for mounting outside a car wheel, as well as just extra coverage here and there. Also have a few Flip Minos that when locked down have a great look.

Is there a good way to mix this footage with a DVX100b shooting 24p? Open to ideas, and would love to hear why its a bad idea as well.

Shoot the same format on the DVX as the consumer camera. I did this once. You really have to push the colors on the consumer camera to get the same color rendition. It works, but its a bit of manipulation of the consumer camera's image to get it to match the DVX. the consumer camera may be a lot noisier, depending on the situation.

Yeah, same format for sure. It's hard enough to match standard dv between consumer models and if you can't shoot both in 24p you'll have real problems. Certain plugins applied in post like Magic Bullet suite might get you close.

so it's more important to shoot in the same aspect ratio? so if you would have to shoot with a consumer 3 chip camera, you should shoot the DVX in 4:3 as well and then stretch all footage in post. How would it look if you would shoot DVX in squeeze and then alter the consumer footage in post?

thanks

you definitely want both cam footage to have the same aspect ratio. If your consumer cam footage shoots widescreen, then use squeeze on the dvx. If it doesn't you're probably better off shooting both 4:3 rather than trying to make 16:9 out of the consumer cams 4:3 footage.

The same format mentioned above was not just referring to aspect ratio, but to recording format (i.e both cams shooting 24p or both 60i, etc. but not a mix of those).
