Mixing 720 24pN and 720 24p over 60 footage in Avid Express Pro HD

Shot the pilot for a reality show with the HVX and Firestore FS-100 last summer (before the firmware upgrade was available for shooting native) and thus sent 720p 24p over 60
footage to post. The editor then cut the footage in a 59.94 project in Avid Pro HD.

Shot a new segment today with P2 cards replacing the FS-100, and in order to save drive space (and all the other good reasons to shoot native!) shot 720p 24pN.

Is there a way to mix these two types of footage in Avid Pro Express HD? I believe it's relatively simple in FCP 5 (and later) by just removing the duplicate 2:3 pulldown sequence from the Over 60 footage and converting it to true 24, but I don't work with Avid, so I'm not sure what to tell the editor.

Many thanks,
David

One option for the Avid route is to remove the pulldown in the MXF files before editing with them. There is a great tool from DV Film called MXFX which can remove the advanced pulldown from the original MXF files and create a brand new CONTENTS folder which will appear to Avid as 720 24pN footage.

If he has already cut all the older over 60 footage, then thats more of a problem. You may even be better off adding the advanced pulldown to your new material, again using MFXF, but that seems a little quirky!!

Thanks, Marc. I've been eyeing that Raylight MXFX for some time now--seems like this is the perfect opportunity to get my hands on it!

And I suppose you're right--we may have to work in other direction, or just bite the bullet and remove all the pulldown from the original clips and re-edit the clips. If the show gets picked up we're definitely going to continue with native footage on the P2s, so perhaps we should just cut the cord now...
