mix consumer 16x9 with dvx100 letterbox

I'm using Avid Xpress Pro 5.2.2.

First 3/4 of shoot came in dvx100a letterboxed to 16x9. New footage coming in from a little Sony DCR PC350 that has a nice 16x9 mode built in.

However, how do I resize this material, which only appears normal in an Avid 16x9 window, so that it will match the 16x9 letterbox.

I'm stymied. I don't even know exactly how to define the problem in proper technical terms: I guess I want to squeeze the 16x9 to a "smaller" 16x9 to match the "size" of the current letterbox. But I can't seem to find an option like this.

Resize the letterboxed material vertically to 133 with the resize tool. Then it will fill the 16:9 window properly just like the squeezed material.

Is there a big upgrade between the 5.2.1 and the 5.2.2 i have not done the upgrade from my 5.2.1 yet.

There is a preset for 16:9 letterbox in the Reformat section of the effects pane. Drop it on the 16:9 anamorphic clips.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I tried both resize and reformat tools. The 16:9 produced bars bigger than my current capture from DVX100a. I liked the look of the 14:9, since it seemed to match what the camera LCD claimed to be recording, but it produced bars too small. I finally decided to custom resize, and found that 101 width and 79 height produced the best match for my base material. I gave it 101 since there seemed to be a slight chance the Sony frame would end up with left right bars.

Why the Sony resize ended up 101 and 79 I can't quite figure, but it looks good and matches the Panasonic material.

Again thanks to everyone.
