Mission Statement

So I'm trying to come up with a mission statement for my company and I can't seem to get a good one. I'm still trying to generate some ideas, just wanted to know what you guys thought. Here are the first few ones I've tried.

"Giving your video that great, unexpected look."
"Video production with an unexpected twist."
"Two opposites never produced better results."
"Video production that flows."
"Video production that just flows."

The company name is Water and Oil Productions. Corporate videos, commericals, event videography etc is what will be done, so I was trying to think of coming up with something creative considering "water" and "oil" don't mix.

I'll post more as I come up with them (not too fond of the above at the moment).

*-If anyone has any other ideas just throw them out there. Thanks.

this is the best i could come up with...

water and oil productions
people drink water; oil goes in cars

A mission statement is not a slogan. What you're posting there are slogans. I'm not sure which it is you're looking for. As slogans, I think some of the above are good (although most of them only work when directly juxtaposed with the company name). As mission statements, only the first one even slightly works.

Doug hit the nail on the head. A mission statement is generally used internally to provide direction for company employees. To be honest, I don't think you need a tagline (slogan) for a production company -- even though I like Brown's. Every company seems to want a tagline even though most customers don't remember them unless they're advertised ad nauseum.

But hey, if you really want one, I know a really good freelance writer who can help. :)

Haha, I figured it out guys. I guess I was just mixing the terms up. I came up with a pretty decent mission statement if I do say so myself.

Yeah, I really like Brown's slogan. Thanks - I think I will use that. It's pretty cool. My mission statement ended up being:

"Integrating the filmmaker (s) and final product, to consistently and creatively produce videos that will captivate their audience and effectively convey a message that lasts."

EDIT: Come to think of it, I'm not sure why I wanted a slogan so bad to begin with..maybe just something to work with? I dunno, I like to have ideas generated around it, but I guess I was really looking for a mission statement and just got them confused.

I would advise you to develop this further. From a stylistic standpoint, it's a very wordy run-on sentence with a few too many adverbs. "Consistently," "creatively," and "effectively" feel like bland business-speak words that don't really say anything meaningful in this context.

I have no idea what "integrating the filmmaker and final product" means. (There should not be a comma after this, nor should you include the (s) after filmmaker.) The phrase is very esoteric. I could guess that it has something to with emphasizing your company's commitment to the client's project at every level of production, but even that is vague, and it goes without saying that one should not have to guess at the intent of a mission statement.

"Consistently and creatively" bothers me when I read it to myself or out loud. Honestly, I'm not sure if it's because of the preceding comma, or the fact that it feels like you are trying to fit too much in the sentence, or if there are just too many "c" words. It might sound silly, but alliteration is not, I don't think, a good thing in this type of copy. "Consistently," "creatively," "captivate," and "convey." I would remove or change at least two of those.

Even if you changed one of those adverbs, though, it still feels like it's a little crowded. Try it with just one, as in, "Consistently producing videos that..." This is easier to read, easier to understand, and sounds nicer. Simpler is usually better, unless you happen to be Dickens.

So, I would suggest something along these lines.

"To consistently produce lasting video that will captivate the mind of each viewer."

(I can't decide whether it should be "each viewer" or "its viewers" or if it would be better just left as "...that will captivate the mind.")

I don't know anything else about your company, so to be honest, it still sounds vague and a little cheesy as I have written it. Obviously, the only way to improve from here would be to really take a hard look at your desire for your company's image and what sets apart your product. Then write that, but in as few words as possible!

Thank you for taking the time to help me with my mission statement. Alliteration is something that I should not have overlooked and quite frankly don't know how I missed such poor use of it. I will work on it some more and take your ideas into consideration.

Its just been a busy couple days and although that is no excuse for shoddy work, it's still quite a few things to juggle. I will get things done right though - all a matter of time management and organization.
