100000 rewriting P2 is not that much!!

If you put the HVX in the mode in which he rewrites the P2 card , 100000 is not that much : (100000 * 8 minutes)/(60*24) = 555.5 days.

Just something to kill time untill the def. specs. are available :-))

If you are going to be constantly rewriting to the P2 card, you might want to consider renting and not buying if you are really worried about the number of write cycles.

I myself hardly ever record for more than 100 straight days at a time!

Your supposed to replace the heads in a DVX after 10,000 hours. This seems a bit better, no?
Are you planning on doing a two year long continious loop on the same card?
This is silly!

I think maybe he was hoping for a very very very very very long time lapse!

Well, let me put it that way.

in SD on a sony HDV 26000hours*7€ (cost of an hdv tape in spain)=182000€

in DVCPROHD that's 4000€ for two 8 GB cards (which will likely be cheaper by the time I get the camera... around may)... the problem is and will be the storage... I guess the new HD DVD disks will help with this issue... that is in part a problem of HDV as well since I like to save the whole project with the m2t files included when I finish a project

I think that a P2 card will loose it's monetary value and be replaced by a new, larger card before it wears out.

He guy, I was just kidding :-))) Just can't wait untill the cam comes out in Europe which is still 6 months to go :-((((

6 months... is it really that long! Damn it!

According to Jan C.-L. it will be march-april 2006.
Hopefully we will get some nice reviews from the DVXUSERs from the states where the HVX will be available in December 2005. At least we can save some more money to buy P2 cards. Maybe the 128 Mb (based on the 32 Mb Samsung SD cards) P2 card will be available by then. Just whishful thinking

Oh, com'on that's six months less than a full year. What is your prob with that?
BTW buy Apple stock from money you want to spend for the HVX. Apple shares
are at 54.50 today and are expected to be at 64 soon. Buy enough shares and
you'll get P2 cards or even the camera for free due to the rise in share value.

With Flash Memory, 100,000 time is the minimum specification for write cycles. In other words, you should be able to write to the card more times than that. Most Flash Cards allow for 1,000,000 write cycles before the media dies; however the specification is 10 times lower just in case.... Thus, you should be able to go for 5,555 days (15 years) before killing the card. If you use two 8GB cards, you can go for 30+ years. :)

Bob, if you are right about that factor 10 it seems ok
