Misc. hawaii stuff

Barry,
What is your feeling of Edius vs. Final Cut Pro??
Do you find the levels coming out of Edius are
good, or do you need to tweak and set-up??
Did you edit that video on a laptop??
Did Edius output the WMV HD or did you
do that in WMEnc??

Thanks

Not skilled enough on either of them to know for sure yet. But I LOVE the P2 integration Edius has. It's totally the fulfillment of the tapeless promise. FCP's import process works fine for small test stuff, but the last two days we shot 20 cards' worth of footage, all greenscreen DV50 for an HR video for a new billion-dollar hotel that's opening in Vegas. All offloaded to an external hard disk in the field.

If I were editing (which I'm not) and I used FCP, I'd have to then go through and import all that footage, and convert it.

In Edius I could edit the footage immediately. Just use the P2 Select tool, import the files straight to the timeline, and start cutting. I'd be started way sooner. I mean, Edius even lets you launch the P2 Viewer program right from within Edius -- that's how well-integrated it is with the HVX/P2 system.

ALL nonlinear editing programs could stand to learn a thing or two from Canopus when it comes to HVX/P2 support.

But even though I don't know the programs very well, there are things I really like about FCP -- fullscreen display, for example, and zooming in and keyframeable track motion, things I haven't figured out yet in Edius (not saying they're not there, but they're not obvious yet).

Did you edit that video on a laptop??
Yes, Edius is my laptop editing program.

Exported from Edius using Canopus' ProCoder tool.

The Footage looks nice but damn the HVX lens has alot of chromatic abberations. How come this has soooo much more than the dvx?

Didn't notice any CA at all, and thought the footage was good. Had to go back to check I wasn't hallucinating, but on second viewing yet I still thought for what it was (read the first post) it looked very nice.

Barry, did you shoot this using just focus-assist? You didn't use a monitor to check focus or anything. If so you did a very good job with the LCD, VF and Focus Assist.

I agree, I'm thinking....(in my best Marlon Brando impression, holding out my hand in Italian style): "You think you can mock the Godfather?"

LOL, indeed.
