Minolta lenses

The problem with using an EOS mount adapter and minolta lenses is it will alter the flange focal length for the lens. Basically just means the minolta lens will sit too far away from the ground glass in the adapter and the lens will not be able to focus correctly and you won't be able to focus on things that are far away. You best bet is if you're only planning on using those minolta lenses is to get an adapter designed for minolta lenses.

bwest, will that adapter on ebay works with the Letus35 mm adapter?

The adapter will physically allow you to attach a minolta lens to the letus, but it won't work properly. With that mount adapter the minolta lens will be too far away from the letus (or anyother adapter for that matter). You won't be able to focus on objects farther away and all your focus marks on the lens will be useless.

If you've bought a letus with a nikon mount, you really should just sell any moinolta lenses you have a buy nikons. Then you won't have to mess with adapters that won't work.

Well, at first I was going to buy all Nikon lenses but I have a relatives who have a bunch of Minolta lenses laying around thus the second thought. Okay, so what about the MInolta MD mount from LetusDirect? Will that lens mount solve the problem you're taking about, Tie?

The lens mounts on the Letus Extreme change pretty easy. It would not be unthinkable to have Minolta and Nikons. SO long as you did not have to tweak back focus much.

Yeah that would be your best bet. If you already have access to the lenses, there's no reason to buy more just to fit the adapter. If they offer a Minolta mount Letus, I'd just get that.

So with the adapter from LetusDirect that is built for Minolta MD lens will not have the above problem, right? Just want to make sure I avoid all problems possible.

Thanks for all your input.

With the Minolta MD mount, you wont have problem with the MD lenses, as the distance from back of lens will be correct to the GG.

Thanks! That's all I needed to make sure.

Just curious, are Minolta lenses good in comparison to Nikon lenses?

You'll be just fine with the minolta lenses. I have set and used them with an adapter I built and had no problems with them. As long as the lenses aren't scratched, they'll work fine.

At the times when these manual lenses were made, Minolta was a big player in the industry and there lenses are "at least" as good as Nikons.

I still use Minolta / SONY DSLR´s to use with my old family´s old Minolta lenses (but already autofocus) and they compete easily with modern lenses from Canon or Nikon. Only the autofocus is slower, but the glass is superb. So don´t worry, you will get great images.

I personally use both Minolta and Nikon lenses on my Extreme. The lens mounts are really easy to change out on the Extreme. I have a telephoto and macro lens in Minolta that I use often on the Extreme and have had absolutely no issues with their image quality.

Use the glass you have. It's cheaper to buy a $60 lens mount then to buy a whole new set of lenses just so everything matches.
