Minimizing Noise in picture (particularly night)

Is there any particular settings you can use to minimize noise in picture especially concerning night scenes (exteriors & interiors). Are there any techniques you guys would recommend? Any red lights to avoid or be aware of? Any advice here would be appreciated.
