I was stationed on a 378 in the guard and on the stern they have a Phalanx (MK15, 20mm CIWS (Close-In Weapons System mount).  Fires around 3500 rounds a minute.

Its on all ships of course!

We're pretty damn talented at killing each other that's for sure. I'm 100% shocked that those barrels don't melt. I mean marines in Nam had this problem all the time when shooting large amounts of ammo through their weapons at once.

I don't have any stats in front of me, but I would guess that the cyclic rate divided by the amount of barrels is probably less than some assault rifles.

You're probably right Jim. I just remember that marines often melted the barrels on their m16 rifles by running a few clips through them on full auto.

That's because it was still "beta" if you could call it that, then came the m16a2 (Or something, cant quite remember, but i remember there was a new rifle that came out to adress the problems of the m16) and that's why we have the M4A1 now, son

Yes, there have been many modifications in both the weapon and the ammunition since it became the standard issue rifle.

I have a photo of what that .50 cal Barret sniper rifle can do at 2000 yards to a suicide bomber. Icky.

My brother over in Iraq sent em to me. PM me if someone wants to see it. I'm not posting it here.

On the subject of overheating barrels, he (my brother) has to haul around spare barrels for his .50 cal machine gun for overheating purposes.
