miniDV vs DVCPRO 50

I was wondering why is there such a huge price difference between say my DVX 100b and say a high-end DVC PRO camera?

I know obviously a dvc pro camera has a really nice lens and an expensive format by why (Australian Dollars) is my DVX $4,500 and a friend's DVCpro camera $60,000?

Well, the HVX is a DVCPRO camera and it's 5k (u.s. dollars). It's the first sub 10k DVCPRO camera.

DVCPRO is panasonic's professional broadcast codec.

Mini DV is 4:2:0 colorspace (4:1:1 for us in NTSC land). DVCPRO50 (and DVCPRO HD) is 4:2:2. That's the main improvement.

Then, you are probably talking about shoulder mount vs. handheld. Larger ccd's vs. smaller ones,etc, etc, etc.

You are comparing 2/3" ccd's to 1/3". Shoulder Mount to handheld. Superior DVCPRO50 codec to MiniDV, etc, etc, etc, etc.

There is no comparison. In price, or otherwise.
