MiniDV Tape question.

A friend of mine has asked me to edit some footage for him since he couldn't because he had to go to college down in Florida. His footage was shot on MAXELL and FUJI MiniDV tapes and he used his Canon XL-1.

I am a bit leary about putting another tape brand in my DVX to input into my computer. I have only used Panasonic Tapes. I don't have a MiniDV deck or camcorder to use at the moment.

If I do put his tapes in my camera, I am sure it will mess up my heads and will have to clean them before I put a Panasonic tape back in there right?

Should I just wait till I can get a deck instead of using the DVX as one?

i mean - wait, dont put this dirty maxel in your DVX!

believe me, tons of people are asking me to take their tapes and put on DVD for them or whatever.. i say NO.. simple as that.

like i said "my mother wont let me" if someone asked for a ride on bicycle. very easy.

Ok now what if I got a deck to play those non Panasonic tapes. Then put my Panasonic tapes in the deck then back in my camera to shoot with, will that screw my camera heads up using several different tape brands in the same deck then using the Panasonic tapes only in my camera?

you got it.. the tape will pick up all that gunk on your deck heads and happily try to unload it onto your DVX
