MiniDV and DVCam

I've seen a few threads on this issue, but I haven't seen anyone's perspective on working this way.

Here's my idea:

Right now, our company shoots on DVCam tape so that the raw footage holds up better for archiving. Near as I've been able to figure out, the main reason DVCam tapes holds up better for archiving is due to the format, and less the tapes themselves.

Seeing as how the HVX200 doesn't record in DVCam mode when using the VTR, to save money, I want to start shooting MiniDV tapes and mastering and delivering on DVCam.

Does anybody here work this way? Has anyone run into trouble working this way (specifically, problems with decks)? Did you find an effecient work-around?

"Large" DVCAM and DV tapes are the same. "Small" DVCAM and MiniDV tapes are the same. DVCAM differs from DV by using faster tape speed, which results in 50% wider track. Still not as wide as with Digital8.

DVCAM is Sony's version of DV. Besides wider track it has locked audio.

Locked audio is a function of the format over the tape stock itself, right?

If it is, then tossing a DVCam tape into an HVX won't get me locked audio.

Do you shoot one format over the other and for what reason?

Unfortunately, DVCPRO cannot be recorded to tape in the HVX. Only DV can be recorded to MiniDV tape. DVCPRO25 (standard def), DVCPRO50 (standard def) and DVCPRO HD require P2 for recording.
