Mini LCD screen, what is needed to hook one up?

I have a gig rig that I use to film local and national bands that come to the area. It consists of a 16 channel mixeron top, an audio compressor, a 31 band graphic eq, a Sony MD recorder and one Applied Magic SCREENPLAY. (Photos coming soon) My video signal goes directly to the Screenplay via firewire connection. My audio travels through two AKG 3000 mics panned in stereo through the mixer and compressor before going to the SP. The EQ is used for post audio adjustments when needed.

What I would like to do is incorporate a small preview LCD screen which can only be the size of the one thats supplied on the DVX into my case. I currently do not have room in the rack for small monitors so I would like to purchase some sort of replacement LCD screen and flush mount it in the rack case support braket.

Can I buy just an LCD screen and wire it myself, if so what is required?

.. you could buy any car lcd screen for hooking up to dvd players and whatnot..alot of them have svideo in, and they almost all run off an ac/dc converter-car cigarette lighter adaptor, or any 12v power scource. so you could run it off a cam battery if you wanted by just hooking the battery up to a mount, and running the power from that to the lcd power leads.
have a looksie...

sorry for the e-bay link. but you can search to find these same items anywhere. i do not reccommend buying from e-bay.

i bought a protable dvd player with 7 inch tft screen to use for a little portabel battery opp. monitor on the go.. works well. and i watch dvds or listen to music in down time somtimes.. but the screen is cheaper+smaller by itself. you just have to configure the battery power.

The 1st link is a bare 4" lcd for $99. I have two of them and made a rack mount for them, the picture is pretty good for being so cheap.

the 2nd link is a 7" 16x9 with a housing for $150. Its a good deal but I don't have a use for the 16x9.

if you search around on the website they have different sizes without housing. hope this helps mike

m_bass:

Have you actually seen the 16x9 LCD? Is it suitable for mounting on a crane or D.I.Y. steadcam?

Speedbump, I've never seen it in person. I use the 4". I bought mine for the same thing, diy steadcam, jib, and portable teleprompter that light enough to fit on a vx2000. It works great for framing and focusing, but I don't use it for adjusting color. The 16x9 lcd looks like it would be easy to make a mount for anything. There is a headrest mount that comes with the lcd. From the look of the picture the headrest mount screws dead center of the lcd. Just match the screw and get a piece of angled aluminum and there you go. mike
