mini DV to Avid on PC via firewire

I work almost exclusively with P2 so recently sold my miniDV deck. Now for the first time I'm attempting to capture miniDV via firewire to Avid Media composer on my PC. Absolutely no signal. Windows not detecting the camera and Avid does not have the option to configure for HVX 200 (which is odd as it handles P2 effortlessly, you'd think the camera would be recognised). Configuring AVID to generic device doesn't work either. I've tried both MCR mode and dubbing mode on the camera, no result.
Anyone experienced in this workflow?

There may be a problem with the Firewire connection, (camera port, cord, or computer port). As soon as I connected the camera to the computer and turned the camera on in Tape mode, windows recognized the camera. I was able to capture dv tape footage in Media Composer using "generic device" with camera controls.

Does the firewire cable and camera work on another computer?

Hey thanks for your suggestions. I also posted on the Avid forums and found the answer there. First I installed the HVX200 driver, Windows then detected a camera device. As you suggested I selected generic device in Avid as MC4 oddly does not list HVX200 in the menu (I'll save that rant for another time!). So I figured what the heck I'll just select the first Panasonic camera on the list. Bingo, camera detected, capture successful!!
