Mini DV tapes

Brand name tapes carry different lubrication techniques that, if interchanged, cause the heads to gum up & clog sooner than the typical life expectancy of the heads in question.

Dry lube versus wet lube = pick one and stick with it.

boy...this question has been answered so many times before...u should've used the search
function...
But to say it again: Stick with high quality tapes like the Pana PQ, SQ,MQ or AMQ. And youll never have any problems...

Thanks You for the advice. I am new to this site and apologize for not using the search function before posting this thread. I will definately try searching deeper before posting a question in the future.

Sorry for keeping this thread up, but where does everyone buy their tapes?
Also, I'm not talking about online dealers. Where do you go when your pressed for time, you're out of tapes, and you need one or two more to finish your shoot. Ritz Camera? Does Radio Shack sell em?

For me there are some local places in houston that I could get the kind I want. But I either order them online or get them at the local shops.

Theres a guy on the corner I deal with. He wears a black trench coat, top hat & sunglasses. He keeps Panny PQ's under his coat & if you tell'em Gweedo sentchya, you'll get a deal.

i've used a mixture of tapes on my DVX and i've clocked about 50 hrs on the heads. since i found out that mixing and matching different brands was a bad idea, do i need to clean the heads or is it too soon?

i've never had any bad experiences with mix matching brand name tapes. i know lots of peeps that are hardcore about keeping pana with pana, but that gets expensive, especially if you're shooting with the PRO tapes.

there's much more stuff that can contribute to a bad record than the tape's brand. its more a shooter preference...find yours.
