Mindy McQ Music Video

Thanks. This was shot this weekend in Cleveland at several cold locations. I wish I could have greenscreened, it would have kept us from moving all that gear.
Thanks James

weird, the shot with the blue background looks like it was greenscreen. must be the lighting or the cc.....

i think some more dramatic lighting would have driven the song home better. the lighting, while even and clean was very flat. i have found that the dvx doesn't need all that much light and i now hardly ever do a traditional 3 pt. lighting setup. a single light coming from one side looks awesome. then maybe a small hairlight from behind for the hair and shoulders. leaving one side of the face dark always says quality.

other than that, it needs more variety of shots. it's cool you got lots of locations but they are all essentially talking head shots. maybe some more interesting angles and some non-performance shots to keep it interesting. try cutting between shots quicker. if you watch vh1 i'm sure you will find something close to this song. watch how fast the cuts are. another way to add drama is to color correct away from reality. like tint the whle thing light blue and pull the saturation down and it instantly looks more filmic. sorry, i'm babbling.

great first crack at music video. keep at it.

Hey thanks, I agree with many of your points. We are trying to get her recognized and exposed so our idea was to shoot this as a "beauty video" tried to cut to her flattering angles. I also very much agree with cutting to non performance shots. Just time crunched. This is not the final product so we will make some adjustments. No real cc though.

Thanks for the feedback.
James

I kinda' liked the song, the singer has a good voice, but the video to me looks to 60i'ish, not to filmic. Like the other poster said I think there are to many head shots, it was a relief to have full body far away shot.

I'll echo everyone about the excess of talking heads. I also thought some of the framing in some of the shots could have been adjusted slightly. Good job in completing your project thusfar though! always a good accomplishment.

speaking of which I need to finish shooting my MV. grrr damn DVX had to get all broke on me.

Thanks for all the comments. That's why I love NLE and being able to make adjustments. We have other b-roll footage that we can cut in and repost with changes. Video has not been released yet.:dankk2:

24 p , I also looked at your 1 min project and love the use of available light and camera movement and editing. Edited in FCP using Multiclip

James

that wasn't my project... if you're talking about the one that's on the board now.

muticlip is handy but you get caught up in that linear trap. if you explore your footage you can find moments that fit the video that are not part of the sync. for example, maybe a pause or expression from the first verse may fit in the last chorus. or maybe there is a word somewhere that would fit over a different word because the mouth movement is the same.

here's an example. my latest project. thru the verses i mixed a bunch of random shots in with the sync shots. this video is cut way too fast for a slower song like yours but you will see what i mean about faster cuts.

what a voice. she has got a very photogenic face I think you could do a lot more with lighting to accent her strong facial features , a lot of shadow opportunity there. I also thing there were too many "straight" on shots. Would have been more mysterious and sexy if you had shot from behind certain objects where it would have blocked part of her image. such as shooting from behind a branch or through some blinds. diamond in the rough imo
