America, the Land of corporate greed and home of the enslaved... says Anti-Flag who are now signed onto RCA records

Hey Pookie,
We all break the law. You go the speed limit every moment your in a car? You ever been to a bar in your life, cause one drink will make you illegal to drive for the next hour to an hour and a half for a normal size person?

Seperating people into categories such as "user" is a dangerous and facist idealism. The legality of something doesn't relate to its morality. Politicans don't define what I think is right and wrong. That's America. That's why laws change, because people don't just take what government shoves in their face as gospel. My only point is legalizing marijuana reduces crime and issues with overcrowded jails. It, like alchohol (a much more harmful drug), should be left to the discretion of the person using it. That's a free society.

Hey NO CASH,
To answer your question I free and sport climb and bouldered mostly, not mountaineering, though I did porter on Mt. Whitney for a couple seasons. I lived in Bishop so I'd hit Yosemite quite a bit. I did Kiness, Royal Arches, easy free stuff. My love is bouldering though so most of my time was spent in the Peabodies and the Happy Boulders in Bishop. I've bouldered in France a bit as well and all over Cali and Utah. Mountain-wise Bear Creek Spire was the best moutaineering I ever did. Great experience. Hardcore mountaineering though? I don't have a death wish. You ever notice not one single famous mountaineer ever died of old age? Give me 60 feet of hard face climbing without a rope and I'm fine, I know what I can do. Avalanches though? Rockfall? No thanks.

Isara don't let them take lawn darts away from you. Take to the streets!! I don't understand how they could illegalize something like that.

Any documented cases of Jarts causing serious injury? A significant number?

Somehow, we managed to never ever hurt anyone with ours. Were we doing something wrong?

EDIT: Ah. 6700 in 9 years. Not significant, afaic.

Kinda like the reason new cars have the anti-get-locked-in-the-trunk mechanisms. I misremember whether it was 11 people in 17 years, or 17 people in 11 years. Or maybe it was 11 people per year. Whatever. Not worth the expense to correct the problem.

Especially when you consider the number of them who were purposely locked in the trunk... Anyone think the person doing the locking wouldn't disable the safety device first? Duh.

Dan

How in the hell could that many people hurt themselves with lawn darts? Were they playing lawn dart catch? I don't get it.

Maybe they were stoned ;)

PK, with all due respect, I think you and Pookie are missing the distinction between 'legalize' and 'decriminalize'. I don't want it to be legal - but I don't think it's something that a 17-year old should get on their criminal record, either.

I think that there are too many laws in first place, which has only one result - the proliferation of irresponsible behavior. It's stupid laws like this that lock up young, inexperienced kids, while the dealers happily exploit or bypass the law with the help of their deep pockets and the other 'legal' thing - guns.

Most laws are a crutch for the irresponsible and the greedy. Civilized people get by with a small number of laws and common sense.

Education? Don't get me started on that. I value education, but only as something that allows me to learn, not something that allows other to 'teach' me. How do you educate a vast nation like America, with close to 300 million people, at least three major religions (plus host of others), of all political stripes, with different social and moral values? Call me a cynic, but I don't think you can. I think education is what lies in each of us, either we want it or we don't.

In case someone wants to call me a pothead because I want to see marihuana decriminilized, I repeat what I said earlier: never done it, never wish to. Be my guest - call me names for my belief.

Gee, I don't believe what I just wrote - I am supposed to be a right-wing conservative.

I love these little debates.....

afa "I don't think it's something that a 17-year old should get on their criminal record"....

A straight 17-year old is hard enough to deal with, a stoned 17-year old is not something anyone needs to deal with.

I did a shoot a few years ago, went out for a week with the LAPD.

Before anyone ever says pot is OK, go out with a cop, and take a look the wonderfull effects pot has over people.

A pot head is a pot head. They only want it for kicks....

I'm as left as you can get and I agree with you totally, X.

See, there is hope for fractured society!

Pook, my entire family are RI State Troopers and all support decriminalization for the precise reasons just stated.

Just for the record, a stoned 17 year old is quite easy to deal with. Maybe you're thinking of meth. That's a big problem in Cali right now.

I confess I only read the first page or so of this thread, but it seems like a fantastic tie-in for some SSP.

I've always thought it would be great to see a stoner movie made by people who've never been stoned, and so came about my next project- the story of two supposedly free-thinking indie kids, depressed for routinely trivial reasons, introduced for the first time to drug culture. Essentially, I wanted to start with the running theme of teenagers who seem endlessly enthusiastic about drugs despite having no discernable knowledge about them whatsoever, and meld that to the similar parallel of "Reefer Madness" style parental hysteria.

The characters will be launched into an ultra-glamorized, hallucinagenic fantasy upon smoking pot for the first time, which they will naturally interpret initially as creative empowerment. However, everything they encounter in it will be constructed from fragments of what they happened to be surrounded by upon lighting up; in this case, several movie posters that will manifest themselves as scenes in the hallucination.

The audience will go through several phases of interpretation regarding the message of the plot; initially, that the film is simply a one-dimensional blowjob to marijuana use (as are most stoner movies). Second, they will begin to pick up on the implication that it is actually critical social commentary about the false sense of creativity and empowerment it presents, which is in effect simply derivative and destructive to truly imaginative thought. But finally, as they reach the conclusion, with the characters inadvertently trapped in this state, as they become hopeless and desperate to return to a stable reality, they are inadvertently plunged into deep philisophical contemplation. After thorough, once again empowered and enthusiastic conversation, they are struck with a revelation- in fact, THE revelation. The Meaning of Life. Thus completes the cliched stoner cycle, the inevitable ending... stoned revelation. And yet, in actuality it wasn't nonesense, they've struck on something powerful, a truth they were unable to attain trapped in the habitual distraction and routine of their everyday lives and perspectives.

And so, the audience realizes that once again they've been misled, and they find another (wildly pretentious, admittedly) message. At this point hopefully they will still feel so conflicted by all the vague, contradicting preface, that upon the final gesture it will have all come full circle in their minds, thus allowing for an open interpretation (but hopefully one that will highlight the irrationality and absense of logic inherent to this subject).

Anyway, that will be my contribution to this debate. it just might take a fews months...

Sad society.

pookie you are really sounding like you could have been a producer for Reefer Madness

Ummm, this is a discussion about pot heads wanting to legalize a drug they are now using.

The "OK, let's be civil", can only be directed to the "users".

What they are using now is illegal. Hence, they are violating the laws.

Please don't start to defend the "users" Jubal28, they have no rights in the matter.

It was directed at everyone. This is techinically a political thread, so if starts to get flamy, it'll have to be locked up.

I never claimed I use. I dont "use" it I dont like to get high but some people do and I think they should be allowed.
AMEN

I love that idea, MutePrint!

For the record, the most famous of pot duos Cheech and Chong were not pot users, so there has been films made about pot by non-smokers. You're idea sounds infinetely more interesting than "Up in Smoke" though.

Reefer Madness is one of the more comical movies ever. I can't help but laugh when the chick throws herself out the window. Yeah, that happens all the time. That's why I quit.

I thought cheech got arrested for weed?

oh yea he was selling bongs or something on the internet from another country or something like that

Yeah the biggest irony about cheech is he's a complete health freak who's pigeon holed himself into the perpetual stoner role.

By the way, if anyone wants hard facts on marijuana decriminalization check out NORML.org

Tons of good level-headed info. They've been working towards an intelligent level of reform for a long time and they have the real-world info to back it up.
