Miller tripod counterbalance question

Hello guys,

I bought an Arrow 55 fluid head. I'm using it for a EX1 letus ultimate rig. It supports it perfectly. The thing that totally blew me away was that you cannot turn of the counterbalance spring on this head.
For the Ex1 with the adapter attached it's perfect but if I want to put only the EX1 on it even the lowest setting is to much. I didn't try it yet so please correct me if i'm wrong. I didn't know and didn't imagine that these heads have this stupid design on them.
Can I do anything about it ( sending it back is out of the question for me) or maybe i'm the idiot and didn't figure out how to set it correctly ?

thanks!

All tripod head has a counterbalance weight range (min and max) in order for the head to perform at its prime. That Arrow 55 head is way overkill for your setup. You could get away with much lighter and less expensive setup that would suit your EX1 with 35mm adapter better. The arrow 55 needs a min of 22 lbs to do its job and can take 55 lbs max. It is an ideal setup for say a 50 lbs setup but certainly not the EX1.

You can add 2x Zacuto Lunchbox (~ 11 lbs each) to try to balance up the solo EX1. But then again, if I were you, I will just return or exchange the Arrow 55 beast with something appropriate. I also would not take any more advice from that salesperson of yours or you ought to study the product more before doing your own purchase.

I bought the head with the idea that i'll put more heavier rigs on it in the future. I used older heads up until now which didn't have this counterbalance design. I put my EX1 on a big Sachtler 7+7 head ( now that is overkill) because no other options were available and I had no problems with it. Now it just seems that you need a separate head for multiple weights. This sucks in my opinion.
Do all the manufacturers make them like this nowadays ?

Anyway thanks for the answer!

If your rig only consists of an EX1/HVX/HPX and a DOF adapter what tripod and head would you recommend? I've heard nothing but good stuff about the Miller DV-10 and was considering that...

DS 20 miller head. Mine has been excellent with EX3 ~ all the way down to a DVX 100.
