EDIT: They wanted me to buy the camera by sending them money because they are "in Rome due to work" Oh well

So i might be buying the 5d Mkii locally for only $850 but the price seems a little low. So is there anything i need to watch out for to make sure this isnt a scam? Was originally planning to get a GH2 to go with my t2i for video but for the price I can't pass up the 5D Mk2.

Alright will do. quick question also, how hard is it to get a more deep depth of field on the 5d? I havent used the 5d before and I dont want razor thin depth of field all the time, sometimes i want to show an entire room in focus.

It's a combination of aperture and the focal length of the lens. Light the scene up well so you can shoot at 5.6 or 8 and the DOF will be pretty deep (unless you have a tele lens like an 85 or 135 on there).

I would guess that the said camera might have a LOT of mileage on it. The owner might not be able to give you an actual shutter count but he'll likely tell you he's used it tremendously for several years and it's likely lived its lifespan. Or, as Gonzo said, parts or ports might not be working properly.

Or it might just be a scam.

I would be concerned as well. The "realistic" price used is about $1400 to $1500 dollars (though people trying to get $1800). Probably better than 50/50 it's either stolen or something is broken.

Ya that's what I'm a little worried about, but I heard back from him and he still has the camera for sale. She says its still under warranty and has only been used a couple times. He still has the box and all accessory, some still in packaging like the neck strap.

Now my question is what could happen if I buy a stolen camera? I dont want to get in to a heap of mess >.<

EDIT: Ya they arent in town but in rome >.> scam.... oh well

well I can tell you this, if they are willing to ship it first, then yeah go for it. But they won't because I and they both know it's a scam. And even if you use paypal, your not guaranteed any refund, and if they do by chance refund your money due to being a scam, it will take a loooonnnngggg time to get it, Paypal sucks. I would get the gh2 instead, it's much better than the 5d when it comes to video, and especially resolution. It makes the 5d look out of focus when viewed next to one another. I know, have tested.

Opinion

Agree on likely scam. The rest is pure BS. I wouldn't trade my 5D for 3 X GH2.

Opinion that is pretty easy to dispute if you shoot on both cameras and compare and contrast the images. Both have strengths and weaknesses. Resolution isn't a strength of the 5D Mii.

Indeed. and "better for video" is about as subjective as it gets. What video, shot by whom, for what purpose. If I was shooting corporate interviews I might indeed like a GH2 better. for narrative films, I don't much care for it's image. Others might, but neither answer is "right".

Honestly I have had a hard time figuring out what camera I want to upgrade to, currently rocking the t2i but want to upgrade to some of samyang's cine lenses. Also want to get a 2nd camera body and maybe start doing weddings for cash because filmmaking aint cheap! Thing is I want what I get to be somewhat future proof (more on the lenses because bodies get outdated after a few months)

but this is all for another thread topic

Is it really because it seems to be a pain to use canon lenses on any camera, was looking at the samyang lenses in nikon mount but they wouldnt be to useful on a gh2 because of the 2x crop factor.

Future is any manual lens with aperture. Auto Focus chips are great, but manual lenses can be used almost on any cameras. Now regarding the debate I Love the DOF of the 5d, but on wide shots like all canons it suffers from moire, aliasing and lack of detail. I generally do not shoot everything in focus, but when I want to I need to have a camera that can and Canons currently at the moment do not shine in that aspect. The GH2 with the hack does, simply amazing. Also if you shoot with very fast lenses you can achieve similar dof as the canons.

Overall I am very happy/impressed with the GH2 and with the proper settings can be made to look very filmatic. In a perfect work I would own a 5d MarkIII and a GH2 Hacked. The 5d would be for the amazing dof and excellent high iso/low noise and the GH2 would be used for wides and when I want insane detail in my shots. Overall these are all excellent cameras, and the MarkIII is a lot better when it comes to moire and aliasing + photography.

IMO, without getting into cine lenses "future proof" is, as the other poster, said lenses with no electronics. Mechanical aperture will work on any camera. Older Nikon, the M42 mount lenses of the 60's and 70's, etc... are the way to go. UNLESS you do a lot of still photography that requires autofocus.

The old Rome scam again. If it sounds too good to be true probably is. I get emails all the time from my friends hijacked email addresses, that are stuck in some country and got all their money stolen could I please send cash.
For $800 for a 5D still in the box they must have found a lot of people to send cash already.
