Midi Keyboard suggestion?

not sure if audio was the right place to ask but can someone suggest a Midi keyboard to me?
I want to hook up a midi keyboard to creat music in logic pro.
I really don't know anything about keyboards so I'm not sure which one to get.
my price point is about $200. but that really isn't the thing here.
I want information so any suggestions are great!

First - do you want a keyboard that produces its own sounds or just a keyboard controller?
...mmm, I don't even know... I remember seeing someone connecting a keyboard to his iMac and used it to creat music in Logic pro and I just wanted to do something like that.

Get a CME controller UF6 or UF8. Shortly there-after M-Audio weighted keys controller. Axiom etc..
Korg PAD control also works for triggering samples AKAI MPC style.
thanks for the suggestion.
I just searched on the CME UF8 and it looks great. but the only thing is that it's $600.
now I have a question. when you pay more money for these midi keyboards what are the extras for?
a cheap midi keyboard will still sends the same signal to the computer so sound quality shouldn't matter right?
is the extra money worth it?
for example, I just did a quick search on ebay and found this. now how does it compare to the CME UF8?

Some features to look for if you're going with a midi controller are how many keys it has, velocity sensitivity, and weighted keys. I personally use the m-Audio keystudio. It runs about $100 and has a decent number of keys (48 I think). It comes with software, but you can use it with whatever. I use mixcraft on windows and Rosegarden under linux. Both work fine. It has the velocity sensitive keys, but they're not weighted. However, it was the best deal I could find. I got mine at Best Buy.

Assuming you're gonna use the virtual instruments in Logic, then a keyboard controller is all you need and at that budget a Behringer UMX49 is about all you can afford.

Now people will rubbish Behringer, but they do a basic job at a small price so they fill this kind of market. Otherwise look at M-Audio, but you'll be paying around a hundred buck more for essentially the same thing.

Is it portable. I have a Yamaha 88 key midi piano, which is not exactly portable, or lugable...

Ryvac, your question about additional cost for certain controllers is usually due to upgraded keybeds and additional parameter controls on the controller keyboard itself. If you don't mind working a mouse you might not need them. Some players like to twist knobs, push some sliders and hit some drum pads.

If you are limited on space and aren't a piano player take a look at the NANO series of controllers by Korg. They're small and inexpensive. If you want something larger and more versatile (also more $) the latest Axiom line of controllers by M Audio are really nice. They automatically recognize most software and are pretty capable. I have an M Audio Prokeys 88 and would like to try one of those five octave Axiom Pros.

You can get a new Axiom with drum pads, 25 keys, real keys and some parameter controls for less than two hundred.
