middle gray?

It depends on the exposure and luminance (of course) for the object you are trying to find a middle gray. I believe it is in the middle, 50%, +/- a few percent. I wouldn't check for the gray until you have set your shot up and set for proper exposure, then search for middle gray or use a gray card.

I don't know for sure however, so this may not be correct, but from my understanding, it is correct.

Lemme clarify- for any given opening, what % would be equivalent to 18% reflectance? I figured 50, but I'm not sure. Or, alternatively, what ASA/shutter should I use on my meter to calibrate it to the hvx? Not so much for incident, but for spot metering.

Thanks.

gonna shoot a feature length next week, so my crew and i decided to do some not-so accurate tests. here's what I got:

using a sekonic light meter and a gray card, 5.6 opening, cineform connect hd, 50 ire on vegas waveform had a 200 asa equivalent on the sekonic, at 24fps spot reading. pretty much the same even if we used incident.

we also tried to check the mm reading for focus- and, although we're not so sure, it seems correct to measure focus with the tape measure where the handle meets the body near the lens... but we only gauged this by eye with a focus chart and the focus assist button using the lcd...
