FS7: Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter for fs7

Today I tried the remote and the wifi function of the fs7 both failed. Put the camera outside the house 4-5 meters, no wifi signal and IR remote also didn't work. (at 2 meter it did). I need a IR - flashlight or a better wifi system.)

Any solutions for this problem? (and not the 1800 euro version from sony)

Just start stop filming and viewing what you film (VWYF).

nyrius aries prime for monitoring.

The wifi app to an ipad works fine for wireless control for me but maybe get a wireless lanc controller.

Hi Ben,
What distance does your Ipad app cover? Mine did 3 meter, then it stopped. Any suggestions for a lanc controller?

I've controlled my FS7 many times with my iPad when shooting activity at a birdbath from about 20 feet away and through a window.

Much depends on how heavily congested the wireless environment is.

I've seen Teradek & Paralinx struggle when used in challenging locations & fail at CineGear.

I'd like more than 20 feet (or as we in say in the civilized world 6 meter ).

Now I'm thinking of building something like this cheap (20 dollar) 6 channel transmitter/receiver. Should be possible to change the switches in the grip with the relay's in this device 6 channel reciever/transmitter.

Now only a (cheap and simple) device that transmits some image. My drone can do that too. I thought this hdmi dongle could do the job but I am not sure.

(thing is, I want to put camera and pan/tilt head at 30 meters (90 ft). It is across a road so wireless is needed.) Want to steer pan-tilt head and control and video start/stop, (and see what I shoot).

Problem is that it is only for a couple of shots so price is important.

Isn't that dongle reliant on MiraCast protocol features designed for tablets and PCs? It's not a pure video transmitter, and I highly doubt it would be able to talk to the FS7 wifi.

I'm personally tackling this problem from a different direction - I've coded an interface between the FS7 LANC port and a wireless XBox 360 controller. You get the possibility of any control accessible via wifi - which is most of them. To round it out, you'd just need a separate wireless video solution like Teradek or Paralinx. The Xbox controller is good at the same distances it is with an XBox - can be over 30ft with no walls.

Why can my Gopro and my Lumix G6 and my DJI phantom 3 all send images and easily be wireless controlled, and why does it have to be so expensive to get a tiny little bit of image on my ipad from the mighty fs7?
I think the camera is capable of it. I think we need a firmware update or a hack.

Wouldn't surprise me. (with payed upgrade). But Sony offers an expensive alternative that should be less attractive then.
Volkswagen set a trend with hidden software :-)

Guys, ignore Ben. You're completely right. Digital cameras are really operated by tiny miniature leprechauns, and as we all know, leprechauns have no limit to their power, except the limits set by their masters. That's why they work faster and harder and with greater fidelity when provided a Magic Lantern. If we can just figure out how to get a Magic Lantern to shine into the right part of the FS7, anything is possible!

Hi Ben did you notice the smiley?

I have my alternative cheap solution, I'll ducktape my lumix camera or the gopro to the viewfinder, then I can check the viewfinder wireless on my ipad.

If you think the FS7 or any other camera should have the built-in means to stream wirelessly to an iPad, I'd invite you to buy a 1st generation Teradek Cube and see how well it works. Or get a Teradek Clip if you just gotta have the iPad.

It works for some applications, and it's finicky. There's delay, because of the long-gop MPEG codec used in IP streaming. You can't get latency down to less than the time of the GOP length plus decode delay on the mobile device.

Maybe someday we'll have this stuff, but for the foreseeable future you're going to need a Amnion-based uncompressed zero latency system like a Teradek Bolt, Paralinx Arrow, Nyrius (if you can stand the DIY aspect), etc.

Since I want to use it only as a monitor (to see if anything (wild animals) comes in front of the camera) to use with the wifi ipad (or infrared) remote control I think the Nyrius solution is good enough.
