microphone inputs

Hey.

I just purchased my DVX and still getting used to it. I noticed that the microphone input is different from the the input on my last camcorder. Do I need to buy some kind of adapter to plug in my shotgun mic?

Thanks,
Mark

The DVX has XLR balanced input for professional mic. Your shotgun mic probably has a 1.4'' mini plug so just buy an XLR to 1.4'' adapter, it's about $15 at most audio store. But I would recommend you just invest in a mic that uses XLR. Balanced input allows you to run very long audio cable without signal degradation, and is generally better quality all around.

Don't forget that in addition to a microphone you also need shockmount ($50-100) and decent wind protection ($100-up) and cable as well. And this is just assuming that you plan to mount the mic on the camera. Read the audio forum and you'll find plenty of recommendation. A few words of advice: don't post in that section before you do a search or people will be all over you. They hate answering the same thing over and over.

I purchased the XLR adapter and connected the mic to input 1. Now i'm just wondering what the input settings need to be set at in order for the microphone to pick up sound.

I'm assuming:

Channel 1 Select -- Input 1
Channel 2 Select -- INT
Input 1: ON
Input 2: OFF

Is this correct?

Please excuse my ignorance.
