Microphone Holder Question

I shot a short at school yesterday and used my school's Sennheizer mic. I plugged it into the XLR, wrapped the very long mic. cable around my shoulder (has nothing to do with it) but the microphone seemed to droop.
It seemed like a normal-length mic. to me. Then I noticed the rubber washers on the mic. holder on the camera (this was my first time using an external mic.)

The rubber washers seemed to make the mic. move all around. Is this normal, or should I remove these rubber pieces for a more stable microphone?

PS,
I'm talking about the rubber between the adapter and the holder itself.

Hi DJ9007

I have a Rode Professional mike on my HVX as well, and yes will does wobble a little. The reason is if you rub your hands on the camera with the on onboard mike active and then switch to the pro mike, you will see why the mike is rubber mounted. It is to stop as much noise feed back from the camera as possible as well as your Sennheizer mike will give a much better audio reproduction. You can also get a short XLR cable which attaches to a clip on the bracket under the mike which will help stabilise the movement if your mike allows you to swap cables.

Mine droops a bit too much, so I wrap a 1" wide pice of foam around the mic before I secure it in the holder.

That makes sense, Stephenh. We definitely need a shorter cable, too.

Kdawg, are you refering to a windscreen? Because I used one. If not, can you elaborate a little?
