Microphone for group interviews

Hello there,
I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on a microphone that would work well for group interview situation (bands with 3-5 people). To some degree the shoots will be run-n-gun, in various locations inside and out, so something that needs to be set up on a stand isn't ideal.

Thanks for any ideas.

Well, let's start with the basics...

1. What's your budget?
2. Will you employ a sound person to run a boom/field mixer?
3. If no to 2, then you are pretty much saying you need a camera mounted shotgun mic, right?
4. See someone like B&H for shotgun mics, then do more homework.
5. In the meantime, read "Producing Great Sound for Film & Video" by Jay Rose.
6. Loop back to 1.

Get some sort of Boom mic, but don't skimp on the quality of it, as you will soon find your self replacing it. You probably will need someone else to operate the mic whilst you operate the camera, maybe get a friend and give him/her some money for their troubles.

Shotgun on a boom with sound guy is best. I found my next best to be a boundary mic set on the table in front of the group. I was able to get incredible audio of a press announcement that got every sound clearly including all off axis speaking, while all the others used the single handheld stuck to the podium.
