looks like some nasty led roll going on there. Am i the only who saw that?

New LED's are, by and large, based on the new tech from Cree. If one scans the eBay LED pages, one can find packages that would have seemed impossible just a few months ago.

Yesterday I shot, for the first time, with my 50-Watts LED fresnel. It uses a CREE LED rated at 3000K, CRI 90+. It is basically equivalent to a 500W fresnel (side-by-side measures with a light meter), but it's a third of the size/weight and it doesn't even get warm (it does have a heatsink and slow-moving fan).

Care to share the model number?

Thanks.

DIY. I have a 3D printer and an optician friend...

I think I could sell small quantities of these for around $350 each. But let me play with them a bit more before I get to that, and shoot a video presentation, and send a couple of units to some other dvxuser for an independent evaluation, and... :)
(Too much on my plate, being a mad scientist is very taxing in terms of spare time!)

Interesting. Thanks for the response. I am looking at a 300W ARRI for the same price range, but I'm all about small and efficient.

For any kickstarter LED I really want to see some CRI info, and the led roll is a deal breaker for me.

Any type of LED or
fluorescent light designed for video has to be invisible to any shutter rates slower than 1/1000. I rarely shoot faster than 1/100, but I want as much safety distance as I can have so I don't have to worry about "Well I can have a 1/30 or 1/60 shutter, but can't do 1/48 or 1/50 because then everything goes to crap."

I dont like the shape of the light. It has a flash light beam to it. Thats the issue with the tiny box. You would have to shoot it through diffusion or get it back farther for more spread.

Scanning eBay --

within the same price range -

Yongnuo 300 bicolor LED - $49, claims 2,280 Lumen, no CRI given (though a $68 bicolor 300 bead version claims CRI 87) comes with four gels, can be hand held or camera mounted, includes a remote control.

Julius Studio - $137 for two day light panels, stands and a "frosted glass" diffuser included, claims 2,800 Lumen.

A nameless 160 bead panel is $23.85, claims 1,280 Lumen, no CRI given.

And what seems to be the two best buys - a brandless 260 bead light panel for $39.89, claims 2,100 Lumen, comes with three filters and a ... user manual and a Wansen 24 bead light (large beads) for $41.95, 2,300 Lumen

In terms of Fresnel lights - $299 for a 100W AS ARRI unit, 5500K, 6,300 Lux from 1M spot, 3,150 Lux flood, about 10 lbs weight, no CRI given.

Maybe this is a step above a flea market but prices have certainly come down over the last year or so.

idunno bout that kickstarter... no cri info, and the sample shots they pose as good, just aren't what i would call... good, such as the selfie shot near the middle of the page. in the nice video interview the guy astutely says that photography is the study of light, but in most of the shots they show, they're using light in a way that almost any pro would hate: On camera. and with no diffusion or anything... it's like the whole pitch is that any light is better than no light, whereas i would think because of the wireless capabilities/able to put it anywhere, they could have really posed that as the versatility to manipulate light, paint the scene, etc...

all that aside, what makes it useless to me is the 1 hour battery life. sorry but unless i can swap out a battery, i just don't want to use it. My phone is the only device that's allowed to be usb-only

I have a bad feeling about this.

I have a bad feeling about this.

So I was impressed with this product, portable waterproof lighting thats extremely small for my run and gun stuff, and it can be controlled remotely.

I emailed the company Lume Cube to ask about delivery times and I received a reply a few min later telling that if I bought now the items would be dispatched same day.

So the following day I purchased a set of two cubes, I was supposed to receive a confirmation email telling me the items had been dispatched but nothing came, I have emailed the company three times with no reply. I even called and left a message on their answer machine (they advertise a 24hr customer hotline). No reply.
That was all a few days ago, I am wondering if my money has gone awol.

Not happy
