GH4 Micro HDMI Cables

Think it's a good idea to start a thread about HDMI cables for the GH4.

I've tried several Type D to Type A on BlackMagic's Pocket Camera & my favorite's been Aurum's due to the flexibility of the cable.

However a colleague recently picked up Paralinx's & it's far more flexible, so will be going that route. The Paralinx's are new & I can't find them online, but are available in 12" (Mfr# HM12), & 18" (Mfr# HM18). Wish there were even shorter options for use with EVFs.

Supposedly there is a limit to how short a HDMI cable can be, but I've tried pigtailed male-to-female cables with a male-to-male adapter & it worked fine, my only hesitation being too many connectors in the chain, which is also supposed to be a no-no.

I have no idea if there are any limitations using these cables with 4K recordings so it be good for someone wiser to chime in here too.

Best,
Bern

Erik,

Thanks for the heads up. I edited the first post to remove the bad link & replace it with product numbers.

been looking for a short ultra thin micro hdmi cable also. Paralinx looks good but $70 to post a cable to Australia is a bit hard to swallow.

Oh wait they have an australian distributor ha.

Anyone use a micro L-shaped connector? Thought if it buttressed against the camera body, it would be safer from weakening the hdmi port.

I've got 15cm Micro HDMI cables (L Shaped on the camera end) - can't see why you can't go shorter??

Sounds interesting for use without a cage or HDMI clamp.

Some questions...

Where did you find the 15 cm cable?

Which direction does the L-shape point the cable, towards the front or back of the camera?

Have you tried it on a GH4?

Yep. Edmond over on Wetpixel had a bunch made up.
Alas all of those sold - and fast too!!

These are Micro to Micro (male to male) so even of an oddity than a 15cm micro to full size cable!

I like the skinny. If the ones I bought from Amazon are to thick I might get a couple of those.

Rocketfish makes a nice one that I picked up locally. Not very think but has a solid connection.
I just picked up this and got it today. The HDMI end is a really fat connector. Also 3' is a bit long for my taste. Especially if I'm mounting a Paralinx transmitter on top. Really need a micro hdmi with the right angle connector facing up, then a HDMI right angle facing down.

I got this from B&H and so far it's been fine.

The micro end is a really tight fit though. It felt like I was going to break the camera when I inserted it. But maybe that'll make it a firmer connection.

Update: Now the Micro end of the cable feels loose whenever I use it. I'm only monitoring with my SmallHD DP6 so a temporary interruption of the signal won't be catastrophic. But if I'm ever going to use an external recorder like the Atomos Shogun then I'll have to get a cage & cable clamp for peace of mind.

If anyone's looking for little bit longer cables, I've found these ultra thin cables to be a good option:

The cable is really pretty thin which makes it very flexible, and it often ends up being lighter weight than shorter but thicker cables.
The connectors also seem to relatively solid as HDMI cables go. Price is pretty reasonable too.

I just wish they offered them in 3 ft. lengths or shorter.
