Micro Gimbal for GH4, BMPCC, A7s - $699 USD

Thanks for all of your help Dusty! This thread has been an enormous resource. I've found out that I really need to find my technique. Do you think the exercises in this steadicam video crossover to a handheld gimbal too?

The walk sure does. Honestly I'm a horrible steadicam operator. Which is why I like the gimbal. I know a few top notch Steadicam Operators in LA. One of my buddies who is a great SC Op came over with his rig when I got the Ronin and we spent 2 days playing with his SC and the Ronin in all sorts of configs. He's a Ronin owner now. Which reminds me, I should reach out and show him the N4000!

Hey Focuspulling (Mr Moon). About the no need to calibrate the gimbal. You might wanna read Dan Chung's article about the device. The one in which I'm mentioned twice because I helped him out. He even had a technician from Filmpower come out and tune his gimbal, which didn't work out so well. But in the end, Dan and I found that one persons settings will not necessarily work on another device. Which is why when I post some settings, they are just a guide or a starting point to input values into another gimbal. But you go on stating that there is no need to get into the software if it pleases you.

There's crazy, and then there's really freaking crazy: when a volatile stranger starts making videos about you, it's time to let the caliphate rule the kingdom and leave the Middle East alone. But I can still hear from behind me a rapid fire litany of pyrrhic victories, like a kid whose mommy didn't love him enough (also narked to the mods). Keep fiddling with your PIDs and know that there is a tiny minority of actual Nebula users (and actual artists for that matter) paying attention, because creativity doesn't wait for theoretical minutiae. And seriously, stop stalking me (with PMs too). It's creepy and against site policy. I just blocked you and finally, now, immediately, block me back, old geezer.

I'm happy with this latest iteration.

The DP4 is mounted directly to the YAW L bracket with a tie wrap. The DP4 is light, the YAW motor seems to be handling it ok.

There is a shelf on the L bracket that the DP4 weight rests on. I removed the battery plate from back of DP4 to slim it down, and installed it upside down to make the power input accessible.

The Tekkeon can power either or both the DP4 and the gimbal @12V.

Neither cable interferes with gimbal moves so far.

Here is my latest test from today.

I understand it's hard to walk smoothly in the snow, but I was not super convinced by the stabilization in this video (as opposed to your previous videos), except for the part where you compare with the 12-35 with IOS on, which look way smoother in the same difficult conditions.

Whatever floats your boat dude. I'm here to share and help people. Not for any sort of promotion or glory. Just kindness and community. Narked to the mods? The mods here are fine upstanding people that have successful careers of their own. I wouldn't bother them concerning any beef with you or anybody else. They have too much going on and out of respect with them I will tangle, or tango if you prefer, with my own battles and handle it myself. I sent you a single PM with private wording not ideally suitable for all eyes. I tried to air it out to keep any nasty off public discussion. You seem to like to publicly air things out. Which is why when you wrote outside this forum and I quote, "Online nerd fights", that a can was opened. I responded to your initial post about the built in button push calibration and you took it out of hand. Then you took it off the thread into your outside posts.

You can ask a ton of users here how volatile I've been. I've tried my best to share and answer each and every question or discussion to the best of my ability. Even in private e-mails. I've sent people links to different videos about PID's and technique. I think I've been more than generous of my time and input, which people seem to be very happy with. Guess what? I don't even require a thanks. I enjoy sharing anything I can that can possibly help a forum member or a person outside the forum my thoughts, experience, input, doubt, or concern regarding any piece of gear.

Dude. I was probably in the first 20 people that received the N4000. Maybe even less than that. I put my dollar on the line and decided to share footage, settings, critique, and time here on the forum for people (many of them I will never meet in person) out of kindness. Without any expectation of ANYTHING in return. I'm sure there are 100's if not 1000's of people that have read this thread. It's got 25,000 views. I haven't promoted a single thing here. Many don't even know my real name (but lots of my DVXuser friends here do).

It was you that called me out. Online nerd fights you wouldn't believe. Stop filming in the burbs circling your car. Learn exposure and color balance. Create something. Those are YOUR words. And now you bring my mom into it and call me a child? My mom is my biggest supporter! She bought me my first camera. She brought me home photography books before there was internet. She bought me TWO signed Ansel Adams books. Not one, TWO. I credit my mother for who I am with a camera today. She supported me every step of the way and still does.

Stalking? Dude. You have this big ass signature click on link to your little website. That leads you to Facebook pages. Stalking? I call it research when somebody insult you.

Now grow up and let the thread get back to the discussion of the N4000.
This is my LAST response to you. You are not worth giving the time of day to from this point forward.

Awesome. This looks good. How is that battery solution working out? I like the fact that you have a nice level stable base to rest the gimbal on a table or such.

Trying to find out which lens will work best on the GH4 with the Nebula 4000. I ran some sharpness tests this morning. The 12mm is the sharpest at f2.8, but that is not what I will be using on the 3-axis gimbal.

Got my Nebula 4000 today.

Balanced the GM1 + 12mm F2.0 and it worked pretty well.

Turned it off to tweak the pan balance and when I switched it back on it did not beep and would start spinning wildly after a short delay. No matter what I do I can get it to work again.

Anyone have this issue or ideas to remedy?

I have an email out to Film Power ...

Thanks,

I have wondered what can get screwed up when moving the plate back and forth during the YAW balance. I would repeat the process a couple of times to see if something that got tangled up in the process untangles itself.

Here is my latest test from today.

I tried the settings at the end of the video with an A7s and it was completely whacked on my setup. Just goes to show that settings don't always translate. dustylense, have you shared your PID settings for the A7s? Maybe it could be a solid jumping off point and then we could fine tune it from there.

Yep the more people use others settings the more we find out copy to copy of the gimbal differ.
But you can give these a go. Maybe start with lower input values and work your way up as needed.

Yeah I think I was flying the a7s under these settings on my copy.

Maybe start with lower P and D's. and take 10 power off of each motor and see what happens.

Go something like this
R: P 35 D 22 Power 145 +70
P: P 28 D 18 Power 120 +30
Y: P 30 D 23 Pawer 132 +15

Keep in mind we are setting variance from gimbal to gimbal.

Again, watch how Emm from CheesyCam balances a gimbal. The dude is pretty slick at getting the most out of Gimbals.

Sorry if this has been answered (thread is long): Can the orientation of the bracket be flipped to the left? That way I can use the fold-out LCD on my GH3. Wondering if the software can work with that!

No. (the current answer)

Early tests says no, but I wonder if negating some PID values could allow such behavior...

Thanks,

Also, either Dave or Erik's video showed the unit spinning around on it's yaw axis like crazy, I was surprised the unit didn't break on the spot when it did that.

The connection is not like the DJI Ronin. The Nebula instruction video says the wires can get twisted and break if turned in one direction too much, and have to be untwisted as needed.
