Micro Gimbal for GH4, BMPCC, A7s - $699 USD

So I've been using the Nebula 4000 on shoots for a few months now. I'm still having an issue with the horizontal - it's not horizontal. Even after calibrating it does not stay properly horizontal. Is it possible that inside the black housing, the actual IMU sensor is not actually flat on the frame?

Should I take the sensor and cable off the frame and do the 6 point calibration thing I've seen video of??

Anyone else experiencing this?

have these been posted? it's all in chinese so i'm not sure but i think it's a demo of team rebel design's one handle pistol grip gimbal. there seems to be an action cam version and a gh4/a7s compatible version in the videos. i'm very interested in this segment and would love to see how the nebula, pilotfly and team rebel design models compare.

Based on the related videos it looks like it's called the "TRD handheld gimbal for GoPro." I would imagine they used plenty of warp stabilize in post and the guys filming have good technique, because there's nothing different about it compared to the Nebula that would account for it being that much better at reducing "bobbing." Btw, If you look at the comments you'll see that Dave Dugdale is already on it ;)

Which horizontal? Do you mean the roll is off center? Did you look at it in SimpleBGC? I was having what might be a similar problem where everything was calibrated but in mode2 or mode3 the roll would auto-center to the wrong center, even though the sensors were calibrated and knew where center was. Turned out it was connected with my control configuration and the workaround I had was to set the roll to follow the non-existent external controller instead of turn off the roll axis.

Yea Noah - the roll is off. No idea what you mean about the control configuration though. I've looked at SimpleBGC before, but teh stuff you mention seems over my head. I'll take a look though!

Is it only happening for modes that have tilt and roll locked? Or is it happening for other modes? I can post a screenshot of what I mean in SimpleBGC when I get home.

Hi Noah - I only really ever use mode 1. I turned to mode 2 and it went mad. I guess I need to reload the original profile for mode 2. Oops. Mode 3 works as normal though and also seems to have off center roll.

I find it quite difficult to tell when holding it at my desk, its not until you are filming in the real world that the verticals and horizontals in the environment tell you its not quite right.

I also suspect it may be something that worsens with use. Like it might be right to start, but eventually leans off center.

I can't believe theres so little info on Simple BGC use online.

Any thoughts?

Have you at least read through the SimpleBGC manual? I found it very helpful for grasping how to proceed with PID tuning. There's a lot of good info in it.View attachment SimpleBGC_manual_2_4_eng.pdf

Unfortunately I found that when mine did a similar thing, and oddly reloading the original settings did not fix it. For some reason my mode2 would just auto-center the roll to something other than the center and eventually mode3 started doing the same thing. It seemed to be related to the "disabled" option under the "follow mode" tab which turns off roll and yaw control. Instead of "disabled" I set it to "follow flight controller" and left roll and pitch percentages at 0% which essentially does the same thing as using the "disabled" option. Not sure why this is necessary and I've been meaning to do more testing to find a way to fix it for real since I'm worried one day that setting will stop working as well...

MiniSturdyFlight looks good. Has a higher weight of 1.3 kilos. Says it is preloaded with gh4 stability settings.

However, they are charging 800+ euros and have two photos of the product with nothing else. How about a video showing it being balanced, especially since they say it has a 'counter balance' for easier balancing and sensor that goes on the camera. How about showing people this instead of expecting us to fork over 800 euros ti find out exactly what you mean.

The support page shows an error message for the product.

The great thing is you can fold out the GH4 screen while filming, but by the looks of it you will need to disassemble to change battery.

That one does look good, It is GREAT that there is finally a tool-less hand held. They have a lot of demo videos on their site (but you are right, no balancing).
This one is also an 8 bit board however. I wonder why they are opting for 8 over 32 when the 2 handle gimbals all seemed to switch over pretty quickly from 8 to 32. Maybe that is what keeps the price down?

Here is the link -

The 32-bit board is more expensive, and AFAIK, the biggest practical benefit is that it is better at driving bigger motors. It makes a lot of sense that it would be big and expensive gimbals switching first.

I emailed them, will let you know when they reply.

It is great you can see the GH4s screen, meaning you don't have to have an external monitor solution.

It says it uses external batteries.... doesn't make clear if it has one in the handle or how that works. So frustrating, give us $1100+ even though we are giving you hardly any real information on the product.....

UPDATE: Went on their FB page and someone asks when we can see the actual gimbal itself and they reply soon.

Interesting thing is if you look close of the photos on their FB page it shows a lot of loose wires running around the thing often going somewhere hidden. I wonder if the battery source is external only. My friend said she emailed them with a lot of the same questions i had a week ago and received no reply. Could customer service be an issue if you run into problems??
