Mic'ing a group of seated kids

I asked this before but in light of the "Don't use lavs" remarks on another thread, I thought I'd ask again.

I recently did a training video with 6 seated kids and two standing facilitators. The facilitators were on wireless lavs and I boomed the kids with 2 Oktavas at about 24" above their heads (it was impossible to keep the boom out of the frame otherwise.

The sound was ok...but hallow.

I basically will be doing the same exact thing with a different client soon. I thought to put lavs on each student. Now I wonder will I get the dreaded clothing or should I be taping the wires under the clothes as discussed on the other thread?

Help is greatly appreciated.

More than likely, the kids will be sitting in chairs, either in a semi-circle or in two rows.

First, are you using the Oktava hypercardiod?
Second, if you are, you should consider shooting closer.
24" away is really too far in most classrooms.

I don't know any other way to say it.
Click on the link
Go to the video folder, open it
look for the file.

Use the lavs and don't be concerned about hiding the mics, just tell them not to wear T-shirts....
