Mic Repair

Today is a horrible day. While filming a local BMX contest, a contestant bailed off his bike and sent it flying into me and my HMC's mic handle. I came out rather well considering what happened. My LCD flip screen is destroyed and my forward mic support is destroyed, also the rear support where it meets the viewfinder is also cracked. All electronics and functions are fine, even in the mic. Will this damage be salvageable and if so what should I be looking at paying? Thanks for any input.

Hello Ryan,

Sorry to hear about your HMC150.

Without seeing the camera, we can't say exactly what parts will need replaced and how long it will take. If you're interested in sending it in for an estimate, please contact our service department. I will say that with sold-state cameras lens and boards are the "big ticket" repairs. Aside from those, it's generally much less expensive to repair than replace... of course, ultimately that depends on how many parts are needed and how many hours it takes.

Either way, as Smifis mentioned, it's worth checking with your insurance. A lot of times cameras and equipment are covered by homeowners/renters insurance if you don't have anything specific for business.
