i'm not at home so i can't measure my dvx, but can someone tell me if this thing would fit? it's an inch and a half from edge to edge.

If you search ebay for a ring light, you can find roughly the same thing for about $5.

Leave your hands off this things... they won't bring you any good results.
If you want an affordable but good LED-light the Vidled is your choice.
BTW I got two black CoolLed40 for sale ;-)

Yep, I don't know what color temperature they are, but they might work.

The $5 "UFO" camping lights are quite blue. They're actually reasonably bright, considering they're AA-powered. You'd probably need something like a 1/2-CTO gel in order to gel them down to daylight-colored.
