Mic for College Graduation

Hi

I am going to shoot my niece's College Graduation next week and just wondering if NTG-2 mic can do the job. I used to have the AT-822 stereo mic to go with GS400 that I use it to shoot school concert and some school graduation. It gave me very good sound. The problem is this is battery operated only not Phantom power.
Because NTG-2 is mono is good for interview people, I do not know if it is good for College graduation event .

Thanks

I am planning to use my newly bought DVX100b to shoot with NTG-2 for this event. Is it just OK or we have to use the stereo mic such as AT-825

Thanks

The NTG-2 is a directional mic...in my opinion, you'd be better off using the stereo mic to get a more complete 'feel' of the whole graduation.

Even better, use the AT-825 at the camera and have someone else use the NTG-2 on a short boom (with a remote recording devise; DAT, Zoom H2, etc..) up close to the stage....you can then mix both in post.

Lots of options...

What do you think if I use internal mic of DVX100B ( input 1 ) and NTG-2 ( input 2 ) together . is this option give me some kind of stereo sound ?

I do not know. tried to get there as ealier as I can to find the good spot and also as close as to stage as possible.

I've purchased both a canon xh-a1 and a an at-822 mic in the past couple weeks. I just need to get the mount (planning on going with a rode sm4) and the shoe adapter so that i can use both the mic and the camera together. For the situation being discussed in this thread, the suggestion was given to have someone with a short boom, an ntg-2, and a recorder in the front. But my question is if the presenters are speaking into venue's mic, wouldn't the sound be all spread out across all the house speakers? So if that was the case and someone was on the floor with a mic and a boom pole, how beneficial would that be?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, i'm pretty new to audio/video recording

if you want speeches, a wireless lav with the mic gaffd to the underside of the podium mic can give good results. Any mic on the camera is going to have too much reverb.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep that in mind. I'm not planning on recording a gradation or similar event anytime soon, but just wanted to keep some info in mind.

btw, I posted earlier today that I needed to grab a mount (Rode SM-4) and shoe adapter to start using my XH-A1 with my AT-822. I just placed those orders a little while ago from B&H photo so I should be able to finally start getting some good sound with my camera once it arrives.
