Miami Vice 2006

Anyone remember the ORIGINAL commercials for the premiere of the TV show? With "In the Air Tonight" playing? This looked like that. Should have used the same song.

Yeah i think it was exciting then...this time, kind of ho hum...been there, seen that.

seriously though, he used a viper to get a video look out of it? it look blurry and really bad. i mean, it looks like every other PD-150 DV film out there. why do they have to do it like that? there's that trace of blur or smear- you get that look on the DVX by using 1/24 shutter. I really hate that look. is that some technical thing you need to have done in order to go filmout?

just curious.

Diggin up an old thread because I really can't wait for Miami Vice. I love Michael Mann and I really think he is the only one who could make this a good movie. If it was not for him, no interest at all. As far as the format is concerned, makes me even more excited to see more of the Viper in action. I thought Collateral looked awesome, the style matched the content perfectly I feel. I am still not 100% convinced this is going to be awesome, but I am feeling pretty good about it. I am just young enough to not remember the TV series, so as far as I am concerned this is just a new Michael Mann movie to see. I have total faith in Mann to create a good movie and get great performances out of his actors.

Totally agree with you man.

I loved Collateral and have high hopes for this one.

I think it could even outdo the original series in terms of Bad-Ass kicking.

anyone watch the 3 hour special on Miami Vice last night on NBC? they had some behind the scenes stuff, and they showed the pilot episode and a 5 minute preview of the film. i didnt know Michael Mann worked on the series... knowing that, and watching the pilot, i'm a little more excited about the movie know. there were times during the pilot that i thought Farrel might do a good job as Crockett, but my question is, why the long moustache on Crockett?

They showed the pilot last night?

I think it had the best first line of any character in TV history:

"Five thousand street corners in greater Miami, and Gumby here has to pick mine."

I'm looking forward to this whole deal as well. I loved the series and think Mann has done a great job on his pics. I read the whole backstory on this in "Entertainment" and saw the special last night. My daughter, who is 17, is looking forward to this. I think overall it will do well with the teen audience so it should make some money.

As a TV show turned movie, I'm going to cut this one some slack because of Michael Mann. Perhaps he'd have liked to have done this when he started but couldn't until he built up his bonafides. In any case, it was originally his story so I'll wait to see what he does with it. I hope he remembers that this isn't the 80s, though. I don't think we need the pastel t-shirs and sports jackets...:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I actually caught the pilot on NBC. The preview scene from Vice movie was pretty good.

Funny thing is Mann has said that he's a pretty crappy producer (because of his short attention span) and after the first two seasons, the rest were crap

He wasn't considering a Vice movie until Jamie Foxx kept bugging him about doing a trule gritty version of that world set in the 00's. Farrell also bulked up for the movie, so much so that he separated a rib, and the prod., had to be shut down for 6 weeks. Also, Mann had battles with the studio over making the movie a hard "R", and won.
The behind the scenes book on this flick could be as dramatic as the movie

Save for a couple of films, I am not a big Mann fan at all. Needless to say, I'll be skipping this one. I have my fond memories of the Miami Vice series...and I'll be keep them just that, fond memories.

As far as the cast goes...
I personally feel Colin Farrell is drastically underrated as an actor...on the other hand, I fell Jamie Foxx is drastically overrated. That aside, the cast is irrelevant IMO. I don't think that we need a remake (or reinvention) of something that is so uniquely 80's period (with the possible exception of The A-Team, which I believe could be worth revisiting if it were done well.)

Haha, I agree. Is the pastel text in honour of Vice ? :)

I, for one, love the fact that Mann is taking on the world of Vice, on an international scope, with Miami as a backdrop.

I think that he called it/revinvented "Miami Vice" has more to do with marketing than anything else. I would have been cool with the fact if he did a Vice movie, without the allusions to the past series.

Either way, i'm going into it with any expectations, except for a kick azz Mann flick.

PS - anyone who is going to buy RED ...mayhap, should go and see the movie to see what it MAY somewhat look like on the silver screen. (one of the reasons I saw Superman btw).

I know you're going to see this movie Callaghan. You won't be able to stop yourself...

You can feel it comin' in the air tonight
