Michael Mann. Colin Farrell. Jamie Foxx. Set in 2005.

Filmed exclusively on a Thomson VIPER FilmStream Camera.

Locations -Miami, the Dominican Republic.

I don't think Michael is taking the piss with this one, so I expect a serious drama, a' la Collateral. If its anything like the series, there will be lush visuals, hypnotic music, lots of neon, sex...

I always thought the series could be fantastic if updated, with Michael behind the cam, but the Viper is a ? for me. I think Vice needs Super 35 , but I'll wait to see. Should be interesting.

PS - Do this baby justice and make it an R

There is notting wrong with using a viper, it how they gonna use it.

Colleteral had little to much videofeel in it.

But Mann is great on what he does.

I liked that way Collateral looked, especially the night exteriors. I would be willing to bet that the look for Miami Vice will be very cool. Lots of Miami at night, I'm sure. I would be willing to bet he bumps up the saturation on this one (as compared to Collateral).

I hope there are NO cameos.

That said, not so sure about the cast. Can't stand Colin Farrell, but Foxx is a good choice.

i hope foxx is more used as the main character, now if it was cruise and foxx that would have been awesome.

I'm so tired of remakes, but Vice is cool and Mann is in control, so it may be OK.

I'm not too crazy about the cast either. Those two seem more like generic buddy cops than vice cops.

It will be strange without the 80's vibe. I just got the first season on DVD, and I still really dig it.

Remakes are not up my alley usually. This sounds intriguinmg with MANN behind the wheel and not some MTV music videomaker at the helm.

I like the cast choices but hope it's a serious R and not some BS (Bay Flava)

A funny thing is that maimi vice(the series) was inspired by music videos. But of course what Mann does is to bring a little more to the movie.

Heat and The Last of the Mohicans are among his best works.

How is the reports on the other side of the atlantic about the production meltdown that seems to have hit the Movie?

Heat is one of my favs. I really didn't like Collateral. It didn't make sense for it to be in LA. It should have taken place in NYC and the third act just had a lot of script problems for me.

As for MV, its really just a name recognition thing now. If its set now, without DJ and PMT, its really not the same thing. Without the neon, bad suits, and 80s colors...it aint MV to me. Just a movie called MV.

I'llbe curious to see what he does with it though. But not high of my list. Its a notch behind A Team.

Oh jesus; here we go again (Titanic).

Why should have it taken place in NYC?

And what happened in the THIRD ACT that gave you problems?

I do agree; I't not MV without the orginal vibe.

LOL... I didn't think we should discuss Collateral here, but since you asked...

the whole taxi cab thing is much more of a NYC scene. I had read after seeing the movie that the original script was set in NYC. Just made more sense to me. LA isn't really the lets hop into a cab kind of town. NYC would have been a better location for that, IMO.

Also, the third act everyone becomes superhuman. It really got a little silly. Also, I'm sorry but in a post-9/11 world you would not be able to break into a federal building as easy as Jamie Foxx did. That was a joke.

I'd have to watch it again to be more specific, but I remember thinking everyone is superman now and the breaking into the building was ridiculous. I know there was moe that bugged me. Maybe it will come to me after some pizza.

I'm not a Michael Mann fan. I didn't like Miami Vice. Hell, I don't even like this post. I hate everything damn it!

9-11 statements found there way into it. i've been to LA and you can hop around easily in cabs. I think Colatteral was brilliant.

I loved Collateral but the one element I kind of tripped on was the 'Oh ****; it's Wil Smith's wife who is the last victim to be offed!"

I found that waaaaayyyyy too convenient.

That's not the point I was making. I never said there were no cabs. My point is cabs are synonmyous with NYC like it or not. The story would have been better served in NYC, IMO.

I've been to LA. I lived in LA. But Collateral would have been better served with NYC as its locale. Hell, I don't even have to argue this one...it was set in NYC originally and Mann changed it!

As for 9-11 statements found there way into it, I don't really know what that means... but I don't think you can really break into a Federal building that easily. If you can, I'm frightened. Part of the many chain of events in the third act that took me out of the "reality" Mann was trying so hard to create.

LOL. I chuckled at that myself and it was way too convienent.

I didn't hate the movie, but some of the elements I said took me out of it and then it was one thing after another after another that I was like oh come on now. Everything up until then had been really good (except the techno music in the first killing scene...really out of place, I thought). I was really let down in the end by it. It was reading 9000 pages only to find out the butler did it. The end cheapened the rest of the movie for me. It was ok.
