Miami Heat- NBA Triple Threat!!!

LeBron James took the easy way out. He spent his first seven or eight seasons at Cleveland trying to build a championship, failed, and now is going to a team that already built a championship with Dwyane Wade a couple seasons back. I don't blame him, because as everyone else already pointed out anything less than a championship is a failure for Lebron James. But, read this article.

I think it makes a very good point. In making that move, Lebron sacrificed ever being considered the greatest ever because he didn't build the championship himself like all the other greats did.

I think the Miami Heat are now an interesting story. I do think that Wade and LeBron will clash, as they are very similar players. I think the Heat will have a hard time "clicking" and I still put my money on the Lakers this coming year for the championship. Or the Celtics honestly.

Exactly!
If they do win multiple titles then perhaps, over time, D-Wade will be called a "great" player and LBJ could play the Pippin to his Jordan.

maybe

But the point is; clearly LBJ didn't want or couldn't handle the weight/responsibility of carrying a team to a championship; which the great players do.

I agree Wade and LeBron are similar, but they're also smart and good friends.
I also think they are going to figure out how to make this work, with James at forward and Wade at guard.

Today, the Heat re-signed Udonis Haslem, a forward willing to play center if needed.
He signed for less than offers elsewhere, and Wade signed for less than Bosh and James so there would be money for Haslem.
Riley says of Haslem, " He is the epitome of what the Heat is about. He is our anchor, a true warrior and a great professional.''

The Heat also signed Mike Miller today, choosing the Heat over the Knicks, Cavs, Clippers and Bulls.

No doubt, it's going to be a very interesting season!

Question: why is it news when an athlete signs for "less money"?

Could it be a marketing ploy intended to soften the (public) image of money hungry, spoiled athletes only caring about themselves.

"You know he took less money to play on this team right? Poor guy, he sacrificed so much, playing basketball in front of millions of people every night. I hope the team wins"

Less money to athletes isn't necessarily less money to the average joe.

I'm willing to bet if you factor in the endorsements these guys get from playing on a popular team and the bonus checks from playoff/championship games it will come close to the market value.

just saying

Question: why is it news when an athlete signs for "less money"?

Why?
Because it's noteworthy.
It's man biting dog, instead of the usual dog bites man.

Because they nearly always follow the money, to the source with the most.
Could it be a ploy? Possibly. But is a spokes-athlete really going to sell more sneakers or cell phones because people say "Hey, he signed for less- let's buy Nike!"?

Bottom line (ha ha), these guys get hundreds of millions of dollars to bounce a ball and throw it through a ring. They just don't do it for a stuffed animal like at a carnival.

Within that alter-universe that is pro sports, it's (I believe) worth noting when someone agrees to less. Afterall, these guys are just uber capitalists trying to maximize their earnings over a limited career span.

The more you think about it, the harder it is to be a fan.
But a fan I am, of the Heat, obviously.
And fans (short for fanatic, after all) forgive (most things).

Not that they have my financial sympathy.
Just saying.

Last I checked, the NBA was about winning championships, not this greatness title, who still talks about Bill Russell? He was great.

Anyways times have changed, and you can thank Kevin McHale for the fishy trade where he screwed Minnesota over by giving Garnett away for nothing to the Celtics, run by Danny Ainge, Kevin's old pal. So now it takes 3 stars to win.(KG warned LBJ about getting stuck in a losing situation)

Let me tell you about Wade's rookie season, they went 0-8 and tickets were buy 2 get 1 free! (It is the only time I was able to watch basketball in person.) Back then they had a good team, up and coming, and then traded it all for Shaq & veterans. And then they won the championship. Riley got proven players, what did the Cavs ever do? They got rid of Boozer, they got Delonte West, Jamison and a beatup Shaq.

Don't blame the guy for recognizing his best chance at winning multiple championships.

Stop hating and start cheering, unless you're a Knicks fan :violent5:

Lebron has gone from the one of the most loved to the most hated. He is going to get heckled almost every where he goes except miami. He even got booed at Carmelo Anthony's wedding.

Well Kobe got through it after the rape case so Lebron can get through it as well.

I have been to Cleveland and I have been to Miami...and Miami wins for me.

Lebron will make WAY more signing for less and going to Miami, he will probably give most of it away to charities in the process, doubt you'll see him with $400M like MJ had because LJ's goal is helping the kids before it is having money.

Richard, if you do make the move, it's now known as "pulling a LeBron."

I grew up in Miami. I'll never go back there again.

It ain't paradise (regardless of what the Chamber says) but it's a helluva lot of fun!
The good is really good, the bad is really bad.

Ilgauskas says "Miami is the best place for me to win a ring." Sounds like he's a pragmatist.
We welcome him with open arms...

LJ's goal is helping the kids before it is having money.

You have to know how silly this sounds. He may be a charitable guy but c'mon...he just signed a 100M dollar contract. He won't work for peanuts that's for sure.

All I know is that Miami is sure going to be fun to root against. It may be futile, but it will be fun.
