Miami Heat in NBA Playoffs! Bring it on Mavs (and Heat Haters!)

Well, it was an incredible season, spectacular playoffs.
I went to one or two game per series, the energy and intensity was phenomenal, just mind boggling!

Dallas played better and more consistently, I've never seen threes made like this. I'm very happy for J Kidd.

I've certainly never seen Miami miss free throws like this, their defense collapsed, and who knows what happened to LeBron? Nobody.

I wasn't so thrilled by the sideshow, it's about the game for me, and the Heat played some great ball this year, no doubt about it. Just not good enough at the end.
But we'll be back next year, Paul, don't worry, and thanks for asking... how did it work out for you?

Lastly, I've never started a DVX thread that went 13 pages with 1000+ views (certainly not for my work!), so thanks to all forum members for your posts, passion and participation.
Especially you members in Dallas, OK and Chicago (plus coddida and his Wizards), I owe you guys beers.

This was tough, hopefully this finals will shed some light on how much work officiating needs. But you can't be anything but happy for all the veterans on the Mavs team to finally get a ring.

Damn, I'm drained...

I am spent like a dollar bill!

Congrats, Mavs! They earned it.

I echo what others said about officiating. It needs a cold, hard, serious look after a very, VERY inconsistently called series.

I also hope Lebron and Wade and the whole team learn a thing or two about class. Not to say the Mavs are the most sportsman team to ever play the game, but they sure played it with more respect for each other and the game than the Heat did. That said, my hats off to Bosh for being the class act he's been the whole series. While Lebron and DWade were darting for the locker room, Bosh made his way to JET and gave an obviously sincere congratulations.

What a series! They don't come around like this often.

GroveChuck, see you next year.

Congrats to Dallas fans and all the Heat haters. That was a great season, we all watched for different reasons but we all watched. I hope the NBA gets its act together and avoids a lockout or worse a canceled or shortened season. This beats watching the Heat win just 15 games like they did a few years back. I'll take my Heat over the rest of the teams out there and see you all next season. Let's go Heat !!

Indeed it was, at least the playoff part; I can't speak much for the regular season. I admit that I pretty much only tune into the NBA during the playoffs. Not really a fan of the product as a whole and there's plenty of other sports to watch during the regular NBA season (e.g. NFL, NCAA Mens Hoops, early season MLB).

...I wasn't so thrilled by the sideshow,

I think the sideshow was quite ironic. The seemingly non-stop, poor word/action choices were unfortunate in so many ways because they took away from the actual games. Yet the sideshow is why so many people tuned into a series that would not otherwise garner much interest nationally (no offense meant to Miami or Dallas). If you are David Stern, what would you do, if anything, about it? On one hand, the childishness makes your league look really bad, I would say the worst among mainstream sports leagues. Yet, it makes you that much more money because of the controversy.

it's about the game for me

Well, the game is great but my problem with the NBA is that it isn't really about the game, at least it doesn't seem that way to me. If it were, they would actually enforce rules.

Lastly, I've never started a DVX thread that went 13 pages with 1000+ views (certainly not for my work!), so thanks to all forum members for your posts, passion and participation.

Ha! Ha! I hear ya. Glad to participate. Thanks for starting it.

This is why I don't really like the NBA as a product. The rules should be enforced as objectively and as consistently as possible. Yet they clearly are not. If there are too many rules to enforce consistently, get rid of some of them. Perfect example, who cares if someone catches a ball in the back-court after the ball has already crossed the line? Just get rid of the back-court rule altogether so it's one less thing for the refs to monitor. Then, maybe the refs could see the travels, etc., call them, and we would all talk more about the play and less about them.

I also hope Lebron and Wade and the whole team learn a thing or two about class.

LB has so much talent and potential. I think people want to like him. I know I did when I first saw him years ago. Yet he constantly sticks it in their/our faces. It's like he wants to be hated or something. And, unfortunately, I'm not sure Wade is the best sidekick to help in that area. It's like two married people who have the same blind spot.

PS. I'm not really a Wizards fan. I'm a closet *cough* Knicks fan. They are so much better than the Wizards. ;)

Thanks again for starting this thread. It was an enjoyable conversation.

Saw this and thought I would share ... you know, for fun:

Q: "Why can't LeBron James give you change for a dollar?"

A: "He can't find a fourth quarter."

Hey-oh!

AHH-HAAA!!! You have a history with the Heat, you're a KNICKS fan!!!

You've never forgiven the Heat for when, during the '96 bench-clearing brawl, Van Gundy grabbed Alonzo Mourning's leg, and Zo shook him like a toy poodle!! LOL!!!

It all makes sense now!

Also, I favor NBA playoffs (despite the refs) over March Madness because I prefer the best of 7 format to "lose and you go home".
Sure the stakes are higher in NCAA, but best of seven gives you come from behind series like Heat over Mavs '06 (see how I worked '06 in? ).

Yet the sideshow is why so many people tuned into a series that would not otherwise garner much interest nationally (no offense meant to Miami or Dallas).
Obviously, The Decision and announcing multiple championships garnered... "some attention", but I think the Heat adding LeBron and Bosh to Wade's Heat created excitlent and curiosity in and of itself- and not just in the playoffs. There were sellout crowds across the country when the Heat were in town, so drama or not, I think the NBA benefited season-long from the Heat.

Good one, Hawk! (but I am taking you off my list of OK beers to buy! You know, for fun...:Drogar-Thinking(DBG).

TiE- just wait til next year!!!

Since I've, ummm, cancelled my plans for Tuesday night, I figure I'll keep the thread alive til then, or maybe even til NBA opening day??? (if it happens?)...

Ha! Not much can be said about the OKC Thunder that's different than that, though. I think Dallas was down by like 15 or something, then went on a 23-5 run to beat the Thunder in the final minutes. I couldn't believe it.

LeBron, that's a French name, isn't it..."

That was hilarious

All true; everything being said about The Heat and The Mavs is alllll true. Bosh was in tears after the game; that showed who REALLY cared on that team.

Dirk the German is a S T U D

Lucky for you! I was taking you offa my beer buying list! LOL!

Damn, I wish I had mad PS skills like that!

Speaking of beer, guess I'll have one (or one for each 4th quarter score by LeBron) tonight, say... around 9?

I wonder how they got Jason Terry to sit still long enough without try to fly for that picture.
